i guess it was only a matter of time that You Tube would pull the plug on you if you were using an add blocker to watch add free anything, they want you to sign up to Premium subscription $15 a month to disable adds🤑another day another money grab🤬

I've updated ublock origin (reset the lists, too) and the ads don't show but it doesn't skip ahead to the actual content either...a 15sec ad will show a 15sec black silent screen

(mozilla/mac os x)

and yes, anyone believing that all this content wasn't going to be monetized at some point grew up in an "anarchist collective"...to which I say "you're fooling yourself, we live in a dictatorship!" (spot the gag if you will)

I find that Brave browser on my desktop still blocks the ads and doesn't have the 10-15s gap that Steff above mentions (though Youtube has a popup warning about adblockers when first loaded - which means they could potentially do something about it in future).

yes that is exactly what happened with me,i first got the pop up warning's for a little while then was cut off with a blank page so i think you are right it will be only a matter of time so you either have to pay for premium or put up with the adds which is not worth watching with all the intrusions i guess we should be used to it now as everything is all about money and it sucks.

We have a family subscription to Youtube Premium and have to say I think it presents as pretty good value in practice.  It's not just the removal of adds, which in itself is a godsend if you try, as I do, to minimise  the invasion of adds in your life.  You also get :

  • the ability to download youtube content for offline viewing,
  • you get background app function for youtube app (which is really good for podcasts and interviews) where the video will continue playing when the app is in the background or the screen is locked
  • Simultaneous streaming for up to 4 devices
  • Synchronisation between device apps (so if you are watching something on your phone and then move to your PC and open windows app it willl pick up where you have left off automatically
  • Access to Premium content, and full downloadable access to purchase the Google library of Movies and TV Shows
  • Full access to Youtube Music (add free) which can be useful for finding things like DJ mixes, limited release albums not available on Spotify or other streaming services

That's a lot of additional features that make Youtube a massively improved user platfrom, and on balance I feel like we get pretty damned good value for money from this subscription (frankly would be happy enough just to pay to not have the adds)

good for you if you can utilise all the benefits especially with a family,
being an aged pensioner with the pension being the only income having to pay for the privilege of going add free is just another expense us pensioners can do without🤨

100% agree.

Although we like to think things should be free, we are now living inn a world controlled by corporations and nothing is ever free.

I still have my rose coloured glasses but they are gathering dust in my closet and won't be getting used any time soon so the world is definitely user pays and nothing is going to stop that.

I get it that ads are irritating and I am certainly no advocate for big business but does anybody here really expect viewing content for free?

P.S. @ray4410 I fully understand your situation and my own circumstances are not exactly extravagant either, but one must weigh up what is needed and what is not, just like when I ditched Foxtel .

I'm still ad free using ublock origin.

No interruptions at all.

If you think about it though, they make the majority of that from selling advertising, so it’s not in their interest to either give their content away or allow blocking of the adverts.  I get it seems like huge corporation vs the little man…end of the day that’s their business…

I'm using AdblockPlus and getting a warning pop-up, but can close this and view the video without ads.

Are you seeing the warning, or not even that?

Nothing.

Edit: if they do block me I'll just watch YouTube content less.

Hi

Adblocker Ultimate, an extension of the Chrome Browser is still working for Youtube

So if you are using a Windows OS it's a good thing. It doesn't stop the Facebook adds however, if you are watching there.
