anewmission
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good brand of home theatre wall plate. I need 3 hdmi 2.1, optical, usb, and 7.1 banana terminals. Thank you if anyone can help. I have seen some plates which have most of these connections but not all. I xan probably live without the optical. Kind regards,
Quark
For HDMI, optical and USB you're definitely better avoiding a joiner style wall plate. Instead use a brush style plate and one single cable for each connection. This is especially so for HDMI. For speaker cables you can use banana style joiner plates, but again I'd recommend brush style plates and a single cable.
anewmission
What is the difference between a joiner and a brush plate?

A brush plate is a rectangle hole that you feed the cables through, with bristles to keep the creepy crawlies and dust etc. out. About $10 from Bunnings.

blybo
I've just built a multi purpose room and have 10 speaker cables, 1 Cat 6, 1 HDMI and 2 sub cables all coming through 1 brush plate. I'd never contemplate wall connections for anything apart from the Cat 6 Edited September 25 by blybo
Kirk100
I've used some desktop grommets in my gyprock wall. Smaller than a full faceplate if you're just looking to pass a couple cables through.
figjam
I got all mine from Space Hifi. Have had no issues with any of it. https://www.spacehifi.com.au/av-distribution/wall-plates
Volunteer Kazz Posted September 26 Volunteer Share Posted September 26 I would never use a connection plate for HDMI (especially for 4K), it's the easiest way to have issues. As others have said use a brush plate, I have one behind my HT equipment and another in the ceiling above my PJ, so my HDMI cable goes directly from AVR to PJ.
POV
I have them in multiple rooms at home and in every meeting room in the office and have literally never had a single problem. We sourced a bulk batch from Lindy. Single HDMI Wall Plate - Lindy Australia

That's a pleasant surprise - first time I've heard of someone getting 4K to work through a joiner wall plate.

Well most of them are specced as 4k compliant, so would be asking for a refund if they didn't work!
