Kent10
I have a new Tubulus HDMI I2S cable that is very thick at the end and so it is blocking the USB port on my Gustard R26 DAC. You can see what it looks like in the picture below. So now I can't have both plugged in at the same time. I can switch them out as I use them or I wonder if I can find an adapter for the Tubulus, or a quality extension so I can keep both cables inserted. It would need to be quality though so it doesn't take anything away from the Tubulus. Would a quality adapter or short extension take anything away from the quality of the Tumulus? Otherwise I will just have to switch them out. Thanks.
Deepthought
You might be able gain a bit of clearance with something like this - https://www.ebay.com/itm/115598167905 I have one of these and I actually disconnected the 5V on it. I was experimenting with whether stripping out the 5V might improve sound quality. LDVS (HDMI I2S) still seems to work fine on my Holo Spring 2 DAC without a 5V coming through the HDMI cable. Not sure about your DAC though. As for sound differences, I'm using a Wireworld Platinum Silver HDMI and with this adapter (at the source end), it did have a still effect on sound - just a smidge less harmonics. Depending on your tastes and/or system that could be a nice change or perhaps you might not like it. It's subtle enough to not bother me whether it's inline or not. Deepthought
Do you guys have Lindy in the US? https://www.lindy.com.au/cromo-hdmi-90-degree-adapter-right This ones got a really slim enclosure so should give you clearance you need. Only one way to find out if it negatively affects the sound - Lindy do make really good quality stuff though. Kent10
Thanks Deepthought. Yes the angled one might work but also risky if I have something else next to it. That might work for now. I'll have to figure it out. It is cheap enough to experiment with if I think it will work. Or an extension such as this. I am looking for a short one but preferably a good quality one. https://www.amazon.com/VCE-2-Pack-Adapter-Converter-Connection/dp/B079ZPK4V2/ref=pd_bxgy_img_sccl_1/133-9935759-2974261?pd_rd_w=4yAn1&content-id=amzn1.sym.7746dde5-5539-43d2-b75f-28935d70f100&pf_rd_p=7746dde5-5539-43d2-b75f-28935d70f100&pf_rd_r=6G40KVJ7SVA9MNNR0TJ4&pd_rd_wg=S9ROZ&pd_rd_r=76ea472a-2503-4a1d-8276-54532f7cf06a&pd_rd_i=B079ZPK4V2&psc=

You're essentially running your expensive HMDI into a cheap HDMI cable. But again, worth a try to hear what it does, or doesn't do to the sound! Kent10
The angled ones going left or right won't work because the coaxial input on the R26 is in the way going right and going left I have an RCA cable in the way. Angled down is the only direction that would possibly work but the Tubulus, being quite thick and stiff, is going to need several inches to work with. I would have to move the R26 way back in my system. Right now it is on top of the pre-amp so I would have to find something to support the back of the R26 and move it far enough back in my stand so the Tubulus cable can come up from above. Or I could put some books or something similar on top of the pre-amp to set the R26 higher by another 3.5 inches which might be enough room to come from underneath with the Tubulus. The other option is to buy an extension which would be easier but might compromise the quality of the Tubulus. I have compared the cheap HDMI cable to the Tubulus and I can't hear an obvious difference but I am inexperienced and will continue to listen. Perhaps the Tubulus needs burn in. I realize that subject is controversial. Or I need to figure out exactly what to listen for. It is so difficult to compare because it takes time to change out the cables. Kent10
I should probably start a new thread but there is directionality to the new Tubulus cable. I switched it so the arrows go out of the CD Transport and into the DAC. Didn't know it had a direction before so I will listen again.
Cloth Ears
I used to have a similar sized HDMI plug on an earlier (very fat) cable. In both cases, it's a lazy design, as they've chosen a large plug, for no other reason than to make it easy for them to connect their large cable. I got two issues, the first one you've noticed (it blocks other plugs). And the second was that the weight of the cable, plus plug, meant that you had to make sure you support the cable properly, otherwise it started to affect (bend) the sockets on both pieces of equipment. No elegant solution, unfortunately, I just gave it along with the TV/Bluray player when I gave them to my sister.
Kent10
I was considering sending the Tubulus back and getting another quality cable that didn't block the USB, but I have read so many outstanding reviews and comments on the Tubulus so I decided to deal with it. What if I miss it? It doesn't seem so heavy that it needs support. The sockets on the R26 DAC seem quite sturdy. Thanks for sharing.
