so if you have the bottom of the line in my case it was a iPhone7 32gb, that occupies your memory resources,  they have had me onto this new SE with 64gb, I’m predicting that it will last 16mths before I find myself struggling and off loading apps to make it workable

yep it’s main driver of updates that and battery

main reason wife’s work phone got replaced … kept loosing charge ! And couldn’t do updates !

For work I don’t take the company issue as you get some basic one and can’t do what want ! Have to put up with something till dies

I did suggest to them to have a phone allowance so we can purchased our own phones and contracts.   But it falls on deaf ears, they obviously want full control as all these apps are IT controlled just days ago where you can’t even share a link or open it.   It’s now requesting to contact IT for access……..the reality and inconvenience of controlling all data out of the organisation.   Possible a good thing to prevent unwanted hacking

Well…just walked into the office and my IT lead said: ‘BTW your phone is out of date so I have ordered you an iPhone 15’.

That’s what I get for delegating responsibility to people I guess.  😂

Will report back when said phone arrives.

Amazing to see I had an iPhone X not that long ago it seems and it can’t handle the latest iOS 17

Yes my girls are going to be pissed about that. But I'm not replacing them till they die. Both daughters only lasted a couple of months before cracking the faces. We won't fix the screens because they won't use proper protective cases because they don't look cool :emot-bang:. Kids and devices...

It’s also the 1st to have USB-C.    Apple was “forced” to make this change due to EU and from all reports it’s a slap in the face for Apple users as it’s limited to USB 2.0 specs,

It's only the cable that comes with the phone that is USB 2.0 limited.

This from  Apple's iPhone 15 USB-C support page

Quote

The USB-C cable that comes with your iPhone supports charging and USB 2 speeds. If you want to use a USB 3 device, use a compliant USB 3 cable that supports 10Gbit/s.

I have a 15 Pro Max ordered for pick up tomorrow, I'm an iPhone tragic and update every year.  I use a case and screen protector so my phones are always pristine and I get a good price for them so they subsidise the phone the next year.

All good points...but has anybody considered the xkcd phone? From the advertisement: "all-vinyl storage for maximum fidelity"

Apple USB-C ports are usually also Thunderbolt capable. I haven't seen anything specific for the 15, but I imagine that it is also a Thunderbolt port; which gives it very capable data transfer capabilities.

where the confusion comes from is probably the pro vs non pro versions 🙂

https://www.dpreview.com/articles/0399301311/iphone-15-cameras-what-you-need-to-know?slide=8

"One of the main architectural changes of the iPhone lineup is the replacement of the Lightning connector with USB-C. For the iPhone 15 Pro models, this move heralds (at last) faster USB 3 data throughput of up to 10 Gbps (when you use an optional cable capable of those speeds, the cable included with the iPhone is limited to USB 2, 480 Mbps, speeds).

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models are only capable of USB 2 throughput."

the pro models definitely allow upto 10 Gbps using the optional cable ...its the non pro that are stuck at usb2....

I know the price is out of control for a phone,  hopefully you’re getting the pro to try out that camera,  if I were to get one I’d be doing the same because it’s for her and all she does is take pics and then get them off to social media….   Love the way you can connect a SSD with a USB3.0

turned up... the usb cable is not the standard light weight effort of previous that apple also sell...
