Sansui77
Just a heads up who is using the manual or electric Elite screen on their system? Can you tell us your thoughts, ie built quality, screen image, mounting hardware, any issues etc?

betty boop
with any of these things id suggest you want to go see for your self... i am using the locally made screen technics premium electricinema and very happy with it.. been going for years and years and still a quality product... in the elite screens price point id also look at the Grandview motorised screens that have been around forever, good honest product and well backed by retailer base. 1
RCADees
Hi guys, I have had the Elite Screens VMAXT120XWH3 since May this year. It is a 120", 16:9 tab tensioned 1:1 screen and motorised which I use in a lounge room. I use it for movies only and I like movies in a dark room, so I wait to use it until night falls and it drops in front of the TV mounted on the wall so the screen had to be able to drop about 10-15cm in front of the wall. Very rarely I use the projector with daylight but this works well too, of course the image degrades immediately, but it does the job. I looked at the option of Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) but as it is a thick material there are almost no options available in a roll up option and the price of the material is very expensive. The Elite Screens option is/was about $5k for a 120" screen. I investigated a bit and my retailer recommended the Australian made Screen Technics for about $3k. I usually would go for locally made and as Betty Boop advised above, local support if something goes wrong. But I had a limited budget and I was looking at about double the price. So I short listed Grandview and Elite Screens as were better options in my case, similar price and features. As you would know in our hobby everything is a compromise. The big advantage of the Grandview is installation, the brackets allow better positioning to attach to the studs behind the wall and the drop is longer at about 60cm, which was handy for me because I have 3m high ceilings. In relation to the screen material I can't comment as I didn't have a chance to compare side by side. I felt that the Elite Screens had more options as I needed motorised, and a tab tensioned one so I went for it. The Elite Screens has a very short drop at only 15cm so I had to mount mine on wall brackets to lower it and this is a short coming for me with the high ceilings. But I am happy with how it looks. So your ceiling height is something to consider for sure. The other limitation is that the installation can be very rigid, I think Elite Screens should try to fix this. I was lucky to have studs right where the ends of the screen are, but if I was to move it lower I probably wouldn't have this choice. The screen does come with two brackets that are behind (not at the ends but maybe a third length from each end) which offers some movement but it is limited, this is to mount the screen flush. I understand that the Grandview is a winner in this regard. For me this option didn't work as I needed the screen to drop in front of the TV mounted on the wall. The Elite Screen came packed with 3 remotes (one wired, one wireless RF and an infrared one). It also comes with a basic wire to be able to be connected to a 12V trigger, but you would need to get the long cable from Bunnings and join the ends, it should be pretty simple. I was unable to find a mono 12V trigger cable so the solution of the Elite Screen option worked great. By using the RF Remote control connected to the projector (I just leave the small remote sitting on top of the projector so can't see it), I can get the screen to drop. The tab tension works well as there are no ripples on the edges of the screen. The material seems to be like a white latex, very flexible. It seems to be very different to an old Optoma screen I used to have which was more of a thick fiber glass material. In this regard, if I haven't used the Elite Screen for a few days, it shows some very light "waves" or ripples near the bottom. I noticed that this happens as when it rolls up it rolls up with some creases. Yet the screen is not crooked as it was laser levelled 100%. The good thing is that just by moving the bottom bar a bit or leaving the screen dropped overnight the ripples just disappear as the material is thin and responsive, so I didn't think this was a big issue and it is just not noticeable, but it is not perfect as it probably is with all roll up screens. I am very happy with it, I think that overall it is a good package. More importantly is the image that it is able to produce and it is really good. But it looked better after calibrating my projector. Lastly, I hope it lasts! I hope this helps and good luck with your choice.
