FAP911
I have an old Kuro that just refuses to breakdown, hence I'm loathe to get rid of it. Built like a tank! Can anyone please advise what I should do to bring it into the modern world of digital Can you add a Chromecast, upgrade the internals, guess I honestly have NO idea Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'mInterested
Yes, go for it. You can set the Apple TV to 1080 and it works well with wifi or ethernet. The foxtel now box is another option to do pretty much the same thing and will give you all the free to air channels but, at least in my set up, is far less solid over wifi than the Apple TV. RizInfamous
I know what you mean. My Panasonic VT50 plasma is still running strong and I'm still more than happy with the picture quality especially in comparison to my other mid range 4K LED TV. If you're looking for just modern streaming apps, I use and can recommend the Google TV which can be had for less than $50. Works great. I don't know if the Kuro has an inbuilt digital tv tuner but if not and you also want free to air digital tv channels then maybe consider a Fetch box.

I only got rid of it because I saw the 2021 Sony A80J OLED which destroyed it. And they've only gotten better with the later models. My recommendation..........time for an OLED upgrade!!!!!! FWIW....... My ISF calibrated KRP 500M was $7,500 with no tuner, no speakers and no stand. After seeing the Sony I gave it to my mates mother without batting an eyelid. I'mInterested
Wow, that’s high praise for the Sony. I have my Kuro as a second TV now and still love to see the sport on it.

mjs
I have my 10yo 50" Kuro sitting upstairs with an Apple TV as a second set to the 85" downstairs, works well, but it's a bit dated. Understand the desire for OLED as an upgrade
armoury
My KRP-500A is giving up the ghost -- has a blinking/flashing horizontal band across the middle. So: available free to a good home, if anyone wants it for parts, but you'll have to collect it yourself. I've posted in classifieds, so look there for details, although I wonder if the mods will allow it to remain... I'm in Singapore, so this is really for my old buddies on XP... I know some of you are fairly savvy with electronics and could make use of this for parts. Better it go to an enthusiast that can use it, than a faceless company after it delivers whatever I buy to replace it. But: to contribute to this thread properly: up until now I've been using a MiTV Android box with the Kuro. Works fine, really. Doesn't bother me that it isn't as 'convenient' as controlling everything through the TV remote -- as is the case with my LG OLED -- but hey, those of us who are into HT, would be long used to juggling multiple remotes for different boxes... Tim D
I was cleaning out my parent's place recently and they have a Pioneer plasma from 2008. I sat down and watched it and they are still a great looking tv. Even the standard speakers on it sounded good. Pity new tv's aren't made quite as bullet proof.

I'mInterested
I watch my Sony OLED and am I’m quite happy with it. 4K sport is incredible on it, as is HDR etc. But if it’s a 1080p stream of sport I find the Kuro has something special which hard to place and is just

When thin tvs became the new trend it was good night to good sound from a tv unfortunately. Then the Soundbar market started. Reality is that nowadays the market wouldn’t think a 60inch pioneer plasma would look good on their wall.
