GregWormald Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 A base Linn LP12 fitted with an Akito 2 arm that itself retails in the UK for well over £3000 or A$5400. G’day all, This sale and the others I have just posted are a result of my “It’s now or never,” binge of upgrading that is (at least for the moment) complete. I’ve tried to put the asking prices about half way between a fair market value and a “pay it forward” give-away. The idea is that I’d like people who are desperately trying to upgrade or start from scratch to have a chance at getting some decent equipment at a real bargain price so that they can enjoy their music much more than currently. It will also enable me to clear out some extra gear that is very unlikely to get used again and then buy some more music with the proceeds. There may even be some interconnects going free with equipment—providing they are suitable for your system. (Base level but all are working.) Pleading, begging and “or near offers” are encouraged. You never know what might eventuate. Here’s the Linn LP12 turntable and arm. The turntable was bought in 1977 and has been upgraded by the Linn agent to about 1991 specs (Valhalla power, black springs, motor thrust pad, etc.), with the exception of a much more modern Akito 2 arm and interconnect cables. Some accessories “come with”: a tube of Linn oil for the main bearing, 45 rpm converter, original rubber mat, Linn felt mat, and a home-made suede mat that I preferred. (My current Linn has a Herbies mat that is inexpensive and IMO is better than the suede.) The attached interconnect is now the Extreme Phono “Crimson” cable, reviewed as by far the best tonearm cable in its price bracket. The LP12 is renowned for its musical presentation so hopefully I don’t need to say anything else about it. This Scottish-built Linn Akito II is a very high quality arm indeed and is eminently suited to quality moving coil and moving magnet cartridges. There is no cartridge. I would prefer Adelaide pick-up but I have the original shipment box so shipping is available at your cost and risk. This Linn is in excellent condition with only a few very minor marks, as can be seen. Linn tables should always be played with the lid off and this early lid is easy to remove and replace. Note that cardboard under the platter is for storage/transport. 4 5 2
AN AUSSIE AUDIOPHILE Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 (edited) It's people like this that warm my heart. I always lusted over owning an lp12 but never got the opportunity to. Hopefully this goes to a very deserving just starting Audiophile. Edited September 3, 2023 by Shane Stephenson 2
Gremrock Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 I hope whoever gets this REALLY needs the bargain. I’d have jumped on it when the ad went live but I feel someone who needs the awesome deal more is out there, and I hope we don’t see it go up for sale again at $2k.. 5

GregWormald Posted September 4, 2023 Author Posted September 4, 2023 This Linn is now sold. Thanks for the overwhelming interest. I must also say thanks to those members who wanted the t/t but acknowledged that they weren't my target group and wished the new owner well. Thanks guys, you help make this a great forum. In the end one deciding factor was local interest as I found that I really didn't want to have to disassemble everything and pack it up properly—a necessity for Linns. Greg 6 1
