Fatso
Can anyone recommend which preamp is best matching with Bose 1801? Pls not Bose 4401 as it is rare and hard to find it in Oz. Budget below A$1500. Thanks for advice. Edited September 1 by Fatso Grammar and more information
audiofeline
I'm not familiar with 1801. I run a tube pre into a sold-state power amp and like this combination. However, I did a quick google on your Bose 1801 power amp. There a quite a few threads discussing poor reliability and suggested upgrades to obtain better reliability, and to protect speakers (it has a reputation for taking them out when something goes wrong). I'd suggest you do some research and consider getting some work done on it.
Fatso
Thanks for advice. The bose just finished services and overhauled. So far so good thanks. Tube pre amp is good but some people said transition preamp with less noisy and better sound and durability is higher. Need to do some research thanks. audiofeline
A Croft Vitale, the original 80's version. Not common in Aust. and Glenn Croft has recently deceased so there are no more Croft amp's being produced, which is a shame because they are highly regarded for quality and value.
