It sounds like it's not earthed properly, but as I have no idea about the amplifier I doubt I can help. What speakers did you have it connected to previously? Can I assume you set it up the same way? playdough
Hello Might be an idea to find another known condition power amplifier, is it one of these below ? What is the input to the Amplifier ? CD, PC, TT and pre amplifier. Photos of the set up would be good , the input media, cable, power amp, speaker cables. and so on. To be fair, setting up a set of speakers, with a power amplifier and input media is fairly simple and we are all here to bring some enjoyment for you when you get it right. Edit, did your amplifier work ok before the speaker change over or is it a fresh set up from scratch More information will problem solve this easily Edited September 5 by playdough added to post. Ralph
Firstly turn every thing off and leave them off for a while. Micrex amps carry a far bit of charge after turning off. (Mine continues to play for about 1 1/2 - 2 minutes!) Once cold, remove and replace the valves, cleaning the contacts. Never turn the Micrex on with no valves in it. However the sound you describes might be caused by trying to plug in a turntable. If so, you are out of luck - there is no phono input on this model. You will need a phono pre-amp to go between. This is where the problem starts! I disconnected the Bose preamp connected the Tanoy speakers to the Micrex amplifier and connected cd player to the amplifier. turned on amplifier and got the humming scrambled sounds. also when I touch the amplifier or the cd player the sounds stop but no music coming from the player. could this be a earthing problem? and why would this happen by just changing speakers? thanks again
Dolicuslablab
Hello again so I have been doing more investigating and have found when I remove one of the cd input connectors on the amplifier and touch where the connector connects I receive clean sound from the speaker hopefully this is a help to solving my problem
Ralph
Could you take some photos and post them here of the connections you have in place on the back of the Micrex? Perhaps we could see what you actually have plugged in and where.

THOMO
You can buy a device which stops earth loop hums -the ifi GND Defender. I have a Chinese amp with a hum and the only way of stopping it was to remove the earth pin on the power lead .Which is potentially dangerous. The ifi thingy fixed it.I was very skeptical it would solve it but it works. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiSzIG77MGBAxUhCIMDHfSRBuAYABAKGgJzZg&gclid=CjwKCAjwmbqoBhAgEiwACIjzEIOQwVZHLZ9y8r4DbMpl84KVb9zFHH_xBJIXGvtmo9RGzoBBvQ7K8RoCKd4QAvD_BwE&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESbeD2JOeYVVW_aIJXZaUm5Nmqdk5aUTkujOMGCHqevzLRnrWQEOVCC8UtjpvsrTukBTRvMDs1TCkCZYkZehPtdgGUVXQS-sZ3mGsw6OY9vp-4LWbh95iD7Lo62_6nyGe8YILYf2JrOrvuTuDDZjA&sig=AOD64_2xOWa_m0p_4Temhl0F2UVySJDYsQ&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwi83vu67MGBAxWSSWwGHSscAl4Q9aACKAB6BAgHEB0&adurl= Edited September 23 by THOMO
