Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted August 6, 2014 Volunteer Posted August 6, 2014 I don't recall any seminars last year?
Philip76 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 They had presentation sessions, such as how to get the best out of a turntable, how subwoofers work, that kind of thing. (those may not have been the actual titles, but I remember these things being timetabled and I missed them all) Each one was sponsored and/or presented by one of the exhibitors.
Kaynin Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Yeah, I remember seeing the time table for these, presenters booked in at certain rooms for certain times. Never made it to any, I only went one day and there was so much gear that it took me all day to work through that alone.
Chopsus Maximus Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Yes. Some were in suites away from the main area. Has anyone looked at accommodation near the venue? Room rates have doubled just for that one weekend and availability is zilch!
Chopsus Maximus Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Read a page or two back in this thread. My bad ... and yes there are quite a few other activities on that weekend.

Here are a couple of things happening that weekend http://www.motogp.com.au/ http://ptv.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/events/international-convention-of-jehovah-s-witnesses-friday-17-october-to-sunday-19-october-2014/ I am afraid that if anyone has not sorted their accommodation by now then you better look at kipping in someone's lounge room.
hammerharry Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Are tickets available at the show or is it best to buy from the website before the date?
Tony M Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Thanks to Stereophilus' post about booking through the exhibition website, I also scored a room at the venue, and at considerably cheaper rates than last year. The only downside is the cancellation policy, which means I have to decide a month or so before if I'm fair dinkum about attending this year - I guess that'll depend on whether the exhibitor's list fills out the way I hope it does . It is a beaut place to stay, though and I love the convenience of staying at the same place as the show. 1

Chopsus Maximus Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Thanks to Stereophilus' post about booking through the exhibition website, I also scored a room at the venue, and at considerably cheaper rates than last year. . Have done the same, thanks guys, half the rack rate of anywhere else and I have a feeling those rooms at the Rialto are pretty swish. I remember regretting not making it last time, so this time I'm definitely there!
Tony M Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 With any luck, one of the exhibitors will offer to set up in your room too @@Krispy Audio Yeah, that'd be cool. Much better than having to share with one or more of the 70,000 Jehovah's Witnesses in town for the WE. (PS Not that I have anything against JW's. When I was a kid in the early 60's I spent most of my summer holidays in a little seaside town on Yorke Peninsula. The local grocery store was run by a lovely family of JW's by the name of (would you believe) Chamberlain. They were also the local agents for HMV television sets (B&W in those days). And all the kids in the town caravan parks gravitated there in the evenings to watch Rawhide, Bonanza etc, sitting on empty fruit crates in front of the shop counter - it was in the more laid-back days before kids were wrapped in cottonwool with parents needing to know where they are every minute. They didn't turf us out and the hospitality was genuine and will always be remembered. Sorry to go OT, but I couldn't have a dig at JW's without balancing it by mentioning one of my favourite childhood memories.) 4

Art Vandelay Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 According to the Chester Group website Equinox loudspeakers should be there too. Assuming they can find accommodation.
Krispy Audio Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I spoke to Stereophilus and he said everyone is welcome to crash at his place. I think. 1
Chopsus Maximus Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I was hoping SGR might be there ... Oh well. 1
Kaynin Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Assuming they can find accommodation. Assuming they take the time to inquire.
Art Vandelay Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Assuming they take the time to inquire. Looking at the tiny list of exhibitors this year, many are obviously not.
Kaynin Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Looking at the tiny list of exhibitors this year, many are obviously not. Looking at the cost to exhibit, I'm not surprised. Still, for me as a punter, $20 and that amount of gear there will still make an excellent day out. I struggled to see everything last year, hopefully I can take more time this time around. Can't wait!

And on top of all that there's the Foggy Mountain Bluegrass Festival all that weekend just up the road in Kinglake as well.
Hergest Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Guru aka Audio Note Australia is at all these shows too so that ticks off a fair bit of the day. I'm only going down for the one day so i'm glad there aren't a bazillion exhibitors as it all becomes a deafening blur. It sure beats traipsing around every boutique retailer in town to get an idea of what's out there.
