Australian AV and Audio Show 2014 is in....Melbourne

Featured Replies

Who is missing?

A few of Australia's largest distributors, Sennheiser - which includes Sennheiser, Dynaudio, Arcam, Bryston. Qualifi - which includes Denon, Marantz, Jamo, AKG. Loewe, NAD, PSB and more. Interdyn (Polk, Oppo, Pro-Ject, PrimaLuna, Rotel, Tivoli etc).

SGR Audio, and a few other boutique brands missing from last year also. All the headphone brands and distributors are missing also.

There seems to be a serious lack of retailers having rooms also compared to last year.

  • I'd propose we meet at 7PM at the Wine Bar inside the Intercontinental: http://www.melbourne.intercontinental.com/dining/bluestone-wine-lounge/   As mentioned, we'll head somewhere from there.

I'm hoping to make it, looking fine at this stage!

How about a "pin a tail on a mod" booth or some similar attraction? Revenue to go to help support SNA.     Like the idea of a SNA dinner.

It seems yearly may just be to much.

Should be in Sydney this year!

I think the organisers didn't take into consideration that alternating the event lowers the cost burden considerably for sydney based distributors and that melbourne based distributors like seeing new faces and old interstate customers as well. I'm surprised at the numbers when you look at the brands listed and realise when you collate them as distributor rooms the exhibitor numbers reduce considerably. Time will tell and there will always be a late surge. And I agree with Cameron, It should have been in sydney this year as well and the proposed space for next year would be an amazing achievement to pull off considering its a concrete and tin walled shed at homebush, fine if you want to show LCD tv's and car audio and integrated security systems but I have my doubts about fine audio . Perhaps then we really would be wishing we were back in Kansas, I mean Melbourne Dorothy.

Cheers.

Or could be rationalization mindful of the diminishing returns currently being experienced in retail as people hold onto their pennies as well as the high prices to book a demo room.

Ah I didn't hear about next year's venue B, wow. I hope pricing is adjusted accordingly as it's blindingly expensive as it is!

Apparently the plan is to turn it into a 'Consumer Electronics Show', rather than a 'Hi-Fi' show.

If next years event will be a Consumer Electronics show, we'd best all rush to this one before it becomes extinct!

I was thinking the same.

Who ever thought of that idea doesn't have a very long memory.

Yes if you had any doubt that we are an endangered species then this confirms it.

Are you speaking from an exhibitors pov?

Cost would be a prime factor, but if an exhibitor is missing this time around it likely suggests that their presence last year didn't result in sufficient sales to offset the cost of attending.

In other words, people have been holding onto their pennies for some time.

It seems hat the organizers are trying to really drain the well by going back to the same one.

Obviously many of the exhibitors think differently.

Yes (sorry should have specified).

We had one of those in London once.  1993 I think it was.

Got my ticket, but geez... Finding accommodation is mission impossible. What is on in Melbourne that weekend? (Apart from the AV show that is).

@@Stereophilus ...read the entire thread and you'll work it out and...you'll also see my post about it and if you like a bargain then you'll go looking where I did to get accommodation.

Really? Read this thread :)

Managed to book a room at the show venue. I think they have a few on reserve for the AV show.

Can I set up a system in your room during the day?

I'm sure we can come to an arrangement Cam... I do love those Shunyata Powercords :P

The wife is planning to spend her day relaxing in a spa somewhere. We should be good.

My wife's coming to the show with me. Unusual, I know. But we're nicking off at 2 pm to go to the theatre. I grabbed the last not-insanely-priced room at one hotel. I'm just waiting for the organisers to publish a timetable so I can decide whether I need to go for two days or just the Sunday. I missed some interesting seminars last year because I only went on one day. But I was most grateful to win a prize so that made up for it.

There's seminars?!

Looking forward to those.
