Think Marc did plan on having a dinner this time round - last time it didn't eventuate so would be great to catch up with everyone for sure!

Either, but what about a catch up in the Rialto itself. I am sure they would have a ' space' for slightly tipsy hifi persons for an after hours repaste with invited hifi personages.

ZM.

As John Hurt said "I am not a personage, I am a Human Being"

BTW that is a good idea.

Finding out that the venue hotel is booked out has made me think twice about attending.  I found it a fabulous place to stay last time and I really appreciated staying in the same place as the show.  The fact that all the good places nearby are also booked is a bummer, too. :(   Rethinking my ideas at present.......

Is there something else happening in Melbourne at the same time? Me and the wife like a treat when we come to Melbourne and stay in a nice place but this year we're looking at over $1000 for friday and saturday nights which is more than we are willing to pay. The middle cost places that we know of appear to be booked out too.

edit. One of the places we've stopped at has rooms for $297 a night on friday, the following friday they are $95 so something is happening in the city for sure. I've just booked my flight and i'm flying down on Saturday in the morning and back home to Sydney in the evening and saving myself a motsa.

So many hotels around the fringe suburbs of the GPO.

Or is it to difficult to spend 10-15 mins on public transport or 5 mins in a cab?

No it's not difficult but when there's a 200% increase in room costs for that weekend it makes a significant difference to a weekend in Melbourne.

Unlikely, Melbourne never has anything on.  Ever.

Just rock up, you'll be right  :D

Isn't there a huge Jehovah's Witness conference happening in Melbourne the same weekend?

Could explain the scarcity of hotel rooms.

Well, considering Jehovah Witnesses believe that only 144,000 people go to heaven to rule over the earth with Jesus, it seems it's easier to get a gig in heaven than a room in Melbourne for the hi-fi show...

Yes there is a Jehovah's Witness Convention in Melbourne that weekend. They are expecting 70,000 people from most states of Australia and overseas which might explain the accomodation problem. If you are happy to stay at Suburban Motels, I believe you will still find somewhere to stay.

I am not sure if the events are going for the same audience?

If I was coming down, I would book accommodation in the suburbs, much cheaper, and it won't need to be a shoe box.

Also, I would rent a car and visit Earle and Mornington wineries. :)

Tho, your accountant won't be happy.

A JW Convention AND a hifi show?

Looks like the folks from Qualifi and Speakerbits are in for a busy weekend!

If you like a nice hotel, Novatel Glen Waverley have rooms available, and about a 2-3 minute walk to the train. Plenty of restaurants/shopping/pubs within walking distance too

I've been watching it, and it seems to get updated fairly regularly as they sign up.
There will be some notable brands absent this year, from what I am told.

been doing some research and most of the hotels in the cbd are booked out(if not all) and same goes for St Kilda road and East Melb and South ect. We've found available accomodation in a heap of places and I mean a heap in swag of places but they're not hotels but peoples units and houses they rent out. Found two in Southbank for like $120 a night, king bed with views ...whaaaaaa!

Leaving it up to the Handbrake to decide where although I did mention that 155-157 Camberwell Rd Hawthorn East  is kinda central to things and they have rooms with comfortable furniture.
