Lansche plasma guy Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 These relabelled Coral M100 compression drivers are thought by some to be one of the best one inch midrange compression drivers. This driver (made by Coral and identical save for the label) in turn was based on the Alnico JBL 2410 which was a beautiful and very smooth driver. The Original Coral driver had the duralum 9 metal element diaphragm (you can tell the originals because they are a gold-ish colour). The original duralum diaphragms are superb. This one looks like an aftermarket or JBL diaphragm? Regardless this is a superb driver and will go surprisingly low on a large enough horn. It had better machining and higher quality parts than the JBL 2410 that it was based on and the Alnico magnet but has a little more permadure in it. I remember in the day some people preferring it to the Pioneer TAD 2001!!! Some friends and I compared the original Coral M100 (with its original Duralum diaphragm) to the Radian PB950 Beryllium and the three of us preferred the Coral so the very expensive and very highly regarded Radian was promptly sold! I already have a pair of the Corals with the original diaphragms for a future project otherwise I'd be all over these (and looking on Japan Ebay for the original Coral diaphragms which come up quite often). Someone buy them and enjoy them. They sound on the right horn and with the right crossover, really wonderful! Way smoother and sweeter than the JBL they were based on and in another league entirely from the later JBL ferrite magnet version. LPG 3
tuyen Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 I agree with LPG post above. I prefer these drivers over radians and even tad td-2001. Just the right balance of smoothness and detail. I did end up sell my pair to a local friend though. Quite rare to find in AUS market. 4

LPG Far as I can find the diaphragms supplied under the OEM arrangement were not the same as the Coral M100 and are as per the photos. You are correct though that the Coral M100 diaphragms do appear from time to time in Japan, in fact I managed to find a NOS pair just this year! I don't have extensive experience with different compression drivers, but I have been exceptionally pleased with the sound I get from the Dukanes I have. 4
