Cambridge Audio azur 840c CD-Player problem

Recommended Posts

Hello to all!

The sadly deceased father of my girlfriend was a hi-fi enthusiast and had some equipment from Cambridge Audio.

However, on his Cambrigde Audio azur 840c, the CD player unfortunately stopped working properly.

It started with the CD tray not ejecting.

After unscrewing it, I realized that the CD-drive-belt was broken and and replaced it. Now it works again.

But now when the CD is pulled in, it will not start.

I noticed that the mechanism that lifts the CD is not running smoothly.

If you turn the black gear with your finger and thus bring the mechanism up, the CD is loaded and starts to play.

But otherwise, unfortunately, it does not.

Can anyone help me how to maybe fix this lifting mechanism?

Kind regards
Michael

Most likely, you have another belt there under the tray that runs that part of the loading cycle and it too needs to be replaced.

The difficulty you are facing is how to remove the tray. Normally there will be some kind of tab that needs to be pushed aside or some lever.

You have to work it out without breaking it.

I suggest to make it easier, remove the whole mechanism.

Once it is disconnected you should be grounded so that static electricity does not damage laser diode. Don't wear any non natural clothing when you do it.

Thanks for your thoughts!

So you mean dissambling the whole CD- Tray?

Maybe someone has a hint on doing that?

I already knew this Video but unfortunately it doesn't show the mechanism.

I doubt that you even can disassemble the tray. Tray would be a just a piece of plastic.

I suggested that you remove the tray from the mech.

Prior to that, remove the whole mechanism, if you cannot work out how to just remove the tray.

Find mounting screws for it (side and rear) and undo them. Then disconnect all the cables.

If it is too daunting to even think about it, give to your local service man.

If you want the specific hints, take some close up pictures and post them.
