Steever
I am exploring the possibility of having a new turntable plinth made locally. I’m in Brisbane but would consider anywhere in Australia. It’ll be a rigid plinth with CNC and real timber veneer work if I go with wood. I’m also considering Corian engineered stone as an option due to its material consistency much like MDF or ply. I just need the plinth made as I’ll be doing the rest of the build myself. Recommendations on who to approach are appreciated. SonicArt
I have made rega style plinths in solid wood, one I have in service presently is 36mm thick rivergum, 2x18mm finger joined sheets, I have been planning to do similar in birch ply and bamboo. Personally wouldn't use mdf or anything like it, it's pretty lifeless material. Have read quite a bit on material resonance over the years, it's quite a complex field, BBC did some interesting research, and there is stuff floating round the Web from acoustic engineers who have worked on some audio projects. I don't profess to know all that much about it, it's all constant learning.
