RJ.
I am renovating my HT. Painted the whole room dark. I have cupboards on both the sides. Should I put my floor speakers inside & cover it with acoustic fabrics. A little background can't paint cupboard doors as it is melamine door, painter said it won't stick. I am looking for performance so I don't have issues putting it outside. I have 7.1.4 setup at the moment.
Quark
Are your speakers front or rear ported? If rear ported would definitely not place them in the recesses.
The Mad Scientist
Nearly all floorstanders are designed to be placed in open space. Placing them in a cupboard will most likely affect the frequency response and make them very boomy in the bass and lower midrange. It may be possible to correct for this behaviour using DSP though.
