rev-ilo
I recently built my first set of cables using Canare 4s8, as much as I like the sound I think my system needs something a little less upfront in the treble. Looking for recommendations for cables that have excellent soundstage but take some of the sizzle out of the high frequencies.
muon*
A length of this sounds nice. Either 16awg or 12awg depending on system. https://www.hificollective.co.uk/article/duelund-dual-dca16ga.html https://www.hificollective.co.uk/wire/duelund-dual-dca12ga-tinned-multistrand-copper-wire-cotton-oil-insulated.html Review https://jeffsplace.positive-feedback.com/first-listen-the-new-duelund-dual-dca12ga-tinned-copper-speaker-cables/
RankStranger
You might try your cables without those particular Nakamichi bananas. If they’re anything like the ones I got a few years ago, they’ll ruin a pretty decent-sounding cable
SonicArt
Surprised you would find canare bright/sizzly, ime Japanese made copper cables are anything but bright. I agree on the bananas, better with no plugs, the only plug I will ever use or recommend is the swiss multicontact pure berrylium copper shell banana, its as close to no plug as you will get. Only downside is it requires soldering.
rev-ilo
@RankStranger Interesting, I bought these from the same place I bought the cable so would have thought they were good quality, definitely going to try a different plug and see.

rev-ilo
@SonicArt I wonder if it's the bananas I used, might try something different and see. Interestingly I have about 80 hours on these now and the treble has definitely mellowed out. My speakers can be a touch too crisp sometimes in the mid/upper treble and I think my previous cables were softening these edges out.

Also a blight on a very famous and revered brand name. the Soundspace series kind of did that in the early aughts. No one who had any experience with those pieces of crap still had any good feeling toward the Nakamichi company, dragon or no @rev-ilo I’m too polite to call them “straight trash” but I was thinking it pretty loudly
muon*
These are the multi-contact ones Sonic Art uses, and I swear by these type also. https://www.sonicartaudio.com/estore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_38&products_id=

nevtronics
I can only go by what I've used, but years ago I was astounded at the difference figure-8 'Monster cable' made to the sound of my system! Like removing a blanket off the speakers! These days I'm using 'Monoprice' cable, with gold bananas from Jaycar Electronics. These seem really good, with a gold plated little 'bead' or 'bean', that you tease out & arrange the copper strands evenly around. The metal cover then screws over & clamps around the bead & strands in the most low-loss way I've ever seen! These are really only diy cables but they sound pretty good to me. It sounds like I may be out of my depth though, with some of the exotic & expensive sounding cables some of youse use!
rev-ilo
Bit of an update With over 200 hours on these cables now I can definitely say that they are fantastic. Any reservations I had to begin with have gone.

You forgot good food... I've noticed our oven produces much tastier dishes with extensive break in of the house wiring too.. 1
rev-ilo
I’m totally on the fence with break in for non mechanical parts… could it be psychoacoustic? Maybe, although I know of many electrical engineers that agree it happens. It’s always a fiery topic, although many non believers also say all cables sound the same, and take a similar approach to DACs etc At the end of the day, regardless of whether burn in exists or not, I’m happy with the change and that’s all that matters right?
