Help how to connect old AVR Marantz SR4300 to Samsung TV

Recommended Posts

Hi I need some help please about how to connect an old Marantz AVR SR 4300 ,with no HDMI to a Samsung TV UA55F8000, with HDMI.

My Integra  Amp died and I am going to use the Marantz until I get a replacement. I have never used the Marantz ,it came with a component cable 3 leads red green blue,an optical cable and a RCA interconnect. My set up is a 5.1  and I have an OPPO 93 to connect also..

Looking on the net I need a  HDMI converter. its all confusing .Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank You

Regards

Paul

The audio out split to rca to tape in, TV in or CD in? Might work. To be honest I cant see the picture that clearly. I'll clean me specs.

Is the digital optical only for audio ?

I'm not tec wise , that's why I need help what goes where  thanks

This is what I read on the net

" . All you need to do is purchase a converter that changes your Composite Video or your S-Video signal into an HDMI signal. We do this with a little piece of hardware so aptly named a Composite Video/S-Video to HDMI converter."

PS Take no notice of the cables already in the TV they are left over from the Integra amp.

It sounds like your approach might be wrong here, if you do not have a modern HDMI avr then you should not be using it as the video receiver, instead use your TV as the video receiver and do as others have suggested and use optical digital out into your Marantz.

Edit: Also change your TV digital audio out to PCM instead of pass through as the old SR4300 is unlikely to support all formats that the TV may try and send it.

Yep exactly 🙂 provided all your other devices are connected digitally to your TV you shouldnt have any issues with just a single optical cable doing to the DVD in and your TV will just pass all the audio through to it (but do make sure you have PCM out selected in the TV settings for compatibility sake).

Assuming you were using a Bluetooth connection with the integra would probably necessitate buying a Bluetooth DAC or receiver, do TVs offer Bluetooth in this day and age (I don't keep up with modernity)?. Alternatively on the cheap you could get a long USB-C to RCA cable and just plug it in when you want to play some streams / files from the OPPO.

On the Marantz, is it the far left connection to use

All I remember is having the OPPO connected to the integra with a HDMI cable , not Bluetooth that I know of

Thanks for the close up - what you'll likely have to do is connect to DIG-1 or DIG-2 IN and then in the Marantz system menu assign which Input will use those inputs. I had an SR-6300 once upon a time and recall having to do something similar.

If your OPPO was connected via HDMI then perfect, just go direct into the TV and it should just work per the Optical connection to the Marantz 🙂

Yep spot on connect the OPPO to the TV via the HDMI cable and should be good to go 🙂

Let me know how you get on tomorrow with connecting it all up. If you get stuck please refer to the manual: https://www.marantz.com/-/media/files/documentmaster/marantzna/us/sr4300_u_en_ug_v02.pdf

Page 22 & 23 will help you set up allocating the DIG-1 or 2 to a particular Input.
