georgehifi
Need help, super thick with this stuff, I have a Chromecast 4k HDMI thingy that I can cast audio to from my desktop, but I need to get the audio out of the HDMI and then into an ethernet input of another component.? Any ideas anyone?? Cheers George
georgehifi
Nobody got anything for me? after 17hrs and 36 views. Is it impossible, someone that knows something? There are powered converters that do HDMI "in" to digital spdif, coax or toslink "out" , but I need it to ethernet. Snoopy8
You have identified the HDMI audio extractor but, as far as I know, nothing that converts digital audio to Ethernet. Let's go back to basics. You want to cast audio from a desktop to an audio component with an Ethernet port. Why ? Why not connect the desktop directly via Ethernet cable to the component? Or use Wi-fi to Ethernet adaptors on desktop and component? Edited July 8 by Snoopy8 Typo

Because this Marantz NA7004 it's the only input it has. 8 minutes ago, Snoopy8 said: Why not connect the desktop directly via Ethernet cable to the component? I have it that way now but with a 15mt Cat6 across the floor, can't go over or under the house. I have a Google 4K Chromecast with HDMI output, and with a previous internet player that had spdif input the Chromecast worked with the HDMI to spdif converter. Yes but when I use them with the HDMI to Spdif converter I have, it doesn't sound as good as the Ethernet hard wired, that why I want to see if I can get the HDMI fed into the Ethernet input somehow?. Audio over HDMI is like any other audio stream. It is "dumb" link with only audio info. Ethernet requires both ends to have an IP address and software to run things. The only "converter" could be a streamer with HDMI input and Ethernet output, but this is getting silly... Your options going forward are: Get Ethernet to Wifi adaptors and use Wifi to transmit between desktop and streamer Use Power over Ethernet adaptors to connect Get another streamer which can do S/PDIF better Move the desktop close to streamer

Have you experienced any noise problems if you've ever used them, some say especially when there's many smps on the mains in the house? It does depend on the house and age of wiring, and how sensitive your gear is. I know someone used them for many years in an old house but others do not like them. Best if you try for yourself.. georgehifi
2 hours ago, Snoopy8 said: Best if you try for yourself.. Hard wired ethernet is the best no doubt, and I can do it with a lot of trouble, but only if there any way I can play Radio Paradise in "HQ flac mode setting" on the computer and send it through the computers modem/router via hard wired ethernet to the NA7004. Their home page is down ATM so you can't select with the wagon wheel quality modes (it's defaulted to this flac hq mode} http://stream.radioparadise.com/mellow-flac This was what is was before it went down https://www.hiresaudio.online/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Radio-Paradise-iOS-app-screenshot-showing-FLAC-streaming-option-reduced.webp Whole review page here https://www.hiresaudio.online/cd-quality-internet-radio/ Because I can control aspects of the NA7004 using Marantz's "VTuner app" on the computer through the ethernet cable to it. So the computer can talk to the NA7004. Cheers George Edited July 8 by georgehifi
POV
Have you considered a mesh network for wifi? There are number of options out there that have wired ethernet ports on the mesh units (meaning you can place a mesh wifi point near where you need the ethernet and connect via cable to the device in question) We use this in our house for sections of the house that we didn't hardwire with ethernet and it works flawlessly. I use TP-Link DECO but there are other options. This will also have the benfits of giving your wife network in the house a significant boost in terms of speed and reliability. georgehifi
I can't work out how this works to my NA7004 as it has no wifi. I got my wife's iPhone tuned in Radio Paradise and selected flac quality played it fine, then saw a small transmitter icon on the RP page on it and it opened up a thing called "AirPlay" and in it I saw Marantz NA7004, so I ticked it the iPhone muted and the Marantz NA7004 showed Airplay on the display screen and played what was on the iphone (now muted) perfectly through my Marantz, and it has no wifi!!! How the hell does that work??? All I can think: iphone to computer, computer back to the modem, modem to the ethernet output cable, other end to the Marantz. Yet I can't find a way for the computer itself to do the same without the iphone Cheers George Edited July 10 by georgehifi

Think of it is a wifi to ethernet converter…. A little box which connects to you na7004 ethernet and lets it talk wifi
