HDMI Drop Outs on Integra DRX 5.4

Recommended Posts

I have just introduced a new receiver into my set up – An Integra DRX 5.4 - It replaced an aging Integra DTR 80.2 that worked flawlessly!
The DRX 5.4 is a great piece of gear, however I am experiencing intermittent HDMI Dropouts.
(I have only just purchased the amp a couple of weeks ago, so my use playing discs has been minimal)

I have the latest Firmware installed for everything, the Projector and both my Blu Ray Players.
I am running the following gear into the receiver.

A Panasonic DP-UB9000 Ultra 4K Blu Ray

An old but great Integra DBS 50.3 standard Blu Ray Player

A previous Generation JVC N5 4K Projector

An Amazon Ultra 4K Firestick

HDMI Cables were Audioquest Forrest, but I have recently purchased Norstone Fibre optic 8K cable which I am yet to try.
(No Cable is longer than 4 meters – The cable going from both my Blu Ray players into the receiver are 1 Meter each)

Connected as follows into the receiver and set up as “Straight Decode” / pass through my receiver then into the Projector via HDMI Main out.
HDMI 1 – Panasonic 4K
HDMI 2 – Integra Blu Ray
HDMI 4 – Amazon Firestick - 4k Streaming
Then HDMI Main out into HDMI 1 input on my JVC projector.

The issues;
HDMI 1 - Has dropout outs anywhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour of play for a few seconds then resumes as normal.
HDMI 2 - So far only 1 drop out into around about an hour of play for a few seconds then resumes as normal as well
(this is a standard 1080P Blu Ray player and Not 4K and the issue hapened on a standard Blu Ray disc)
HDMI 4 - The Firestick works flawlessly – No issues at all!

Is anyone else having these issues?
And what are your suggestions to remedy – I am getting worried about this!

Many Thanks in advance!

Not a "proper" solution but maybe a good workaround.

Try using HDMI inputs 3,5,6 and 7 for your problem gear.

As HDMI 4 seems fine maybe it's just that HDMI 1 and 2 have issues.

I accidentally fried HDMI 1 and 2 on my Integra DHC 80.3 back in the day (my fault) but the rest still worked fine.

Otherwise I guess it's some sort of HDMI gear matching problem as your Firestick works.

You could also try your other stuff through HDMI 4 and see what happens.

If it turns out that HDMI 1 and 2 are broken you could always return under Warranty.

Good Luck.

It's probably your 4m cable and should be fixed by your new cables if they're any good.

The UB9000 playing UHD discs will need the greatest bandwidth, hence the more common dropouts.

The Integra playing blu-ray discs shouldn't be too demanding so the one dropout could just be a glitch.

The Firestick streaming 4K will have a lot more compression in the stream and require lower bandwidth.

Thanks, that is one of the things I am going to try - literally just attached the new Cable today.
I am absolutely diligent whenever doing anything with HDMI Cables - Powering off and unplugging from the wall outlet is always where I start.
My old Integra DTR 80.2 had no issues whatsoever and I ran it for 12 years!

Bandwidth is exactly what I am thinking, especially with the Panasonic - The fact that I am having zero issues with the Firestick and even fewer with my Standard 1080P Blu Ray speaks volumes! - Thanks for your reply!!

I had all sorts of dropouts and not connecting issues when I upgraded to a 4k AVR. I ended up upgrading all HDMI cables to 48 Gbps and never had another issue.

That exactly what I also did - Purchased New 48 Gbps Fibre Optic Cables - In the end I ascertained it was the Firestick causing the issue, I am still looking at a fix.

Over on the AVS forums it's a known issue that could be related to certain inputs causing the fault - I have read a lot of people are having success after only utilizing HDMI Inputs 1 to 3 on the Onkyo RZ50 (The little Bother to my Integra)
I had my Firestick in input 4 using 1 & 2 for my Blu Ray players - Allegedly using inputs 1, 2 & 3 has in some cases resolved this fault - Why is anyone's guess!!

  • 1 month later...

Just an update on the issue I was having a while back…

It ended up being the Firestick – I am now using HDMI inputs 1, 2 & 3 on my DRX 5.4 (Firestick in input 3) everything works fine – no issues at all!

The simple fix was I just plugged the Firestick into HDMI 3 on my Amp and the issues was not only gone, I am now also getting 12 bit color!! – when I was using input 4, I was only getting 8 bit color and terrible color banding!!

Hope this helps other members out!
