I have a Yamaha rxv2085, which I'm happy with.

Running m&k 750thx speakers, 4 m&k atmos speakers, and sur55 as my surrounds, 2x v12 subs run with minidsp.

I've been considering going for a rz50 purely for the DIRAC room correction.

Is DIRAC really that much better than YPAO?

Would it be an audible improvement over my yamaha?

As right now the rz50 is on sale, $2700 down to $2000.

As a side note, I also have the option of getting an amc power amp for nearly 50% off.

If anyone has any input on whether or not it's needed or the quality of these power amps?

Thanks!

The Onkyo TX-RZ50 is an upgrade to the Yamaha RX-V2085. See:

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/onkyo-tx-rz50/australia-and-asia/yamaha-rx-v2085/australia/

If you are referring to the Onkyo TX-RZ50 "Refurbished" on the Excel HiFi site here for $1999.00. See:

Be aware that the warranty info for the Refurb Onkyo and Pioneer AVR's on the Excel HiFi site is incorrect. See:

Return, repair, and replacement shipping, liability, and the cost is the responsibility of the original retail purchaser.

But if the Onkyo TX-RZ50 you are referring to is a new unit, well done.

Warranty info for Yamaha Refurb products is correct however. Perhaps consider a Refurb Yamaha AVR instead.

But if you want the Onkyo TX-RZ50, you might be better to try and bargain the price down on a new unit rather that Refurb.

I have a AMC power amp that I'm using with our Yamaha RX-A3080 to power the additional channels. I have no complaints. It works well and was cost effective power amp.

Cheers!

Undoubtedly, Dirac Live is better than YPAO and you will hear it. The sound stage is better, with more precise sound placement.

You are underplaying it here!  DIRAC (particularly with full version) when done properly is orders of magnitude better than YPAO.

I too can rave about the benefits of Dirac.... although in my case, I opted for a near relative from the family of Onkyo - the Integra DRX 3.4.

I will mention (and reviews elsewhere have also covered this) - the internal power amps are best suited to easy to drive 8ohm speakers - they can get into trouble with 4ohm speakers - especially where the speakers have impedances below 3ohm.

So if you have hard to drive speakers - an external power amp for the fronts can magically improve the sound - much less power is required for the rest of the speakers, and in my case, taking L & R load off the AVR cleaned up the sound wonderfully.

My AVR is driving a 5.1.4 setup with front L/R being driven off an external power amp (connected to the pre-outs).

But Dirac was the thing that made the biggest difference improving things off my previous setup.
