The November 2013 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company.

Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests.  It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition.  And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

This month we will feature a system from Peter Tsui of Audio Dynamics (http://www.audiodynamics.com.au) and Len Wallis Audio (http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/).  The system will be comprised of: Focal, Electrocompaniet and Transparent Audio.

The speakers will be the Focal 1028BE (http://www.focal.com/en/electra-1000-be-2/209-electra-1028-be-3544053695099.html).  Their driver complement include two 6.5" (16.5cm) "W" woofers, 6.5" (16.5cm) "W" midrange and a 1.25" (27mm) pure Beryllium IAL inverted dome tweeter.  In their own words… “A compact floorstander with irrefutable charm.†  Highly respected speakers with many good reviews.  Retail is $9999.

The amplification will be the new integrated Electrocompaniet ECI 6DS (http://www.electrocompaniet.com/products/classic/integrated/ECI_6DS).   The ECI 6DS offers 125 wpc and is based on the ECI 5MK II.  To paraphrase Electrocompaniet … “To make it even better it has been equipped with a better power supply and a more sophisticated preamplifier module.  The ECI 6DS is a powerful integrated amplifier, equipped with a number of analogue and digital inputs offering  a wide range of connectivity.  This built-in media streaming unit is fully compatible with established standards like UPnP and DLNA.  The ECI 6DS enables you listen to nearly all formats with musical content from your home computer network, internet radio or different types of USB and NAS- storage devices.† Retail is $9999.

The CD/SACD player will be the Electrocompaniet EMP3 3D Multiplayer (http://www.electrocompaniet.com/products/classic/digital/EMP_3).  To quote Electrocompaniet … “The EMP 3 is a real multiplayer that works perfectly as a player in a multichannel set-up and as a two channel CD/SACD player.  The EMP 3 offers both phono and XLR balanced outputs.  PCM format is up scaled to 192kHz/24bit before being sent to the DAC’s, DSD format is direct.† Retail is $4500.

For those that may be interested in using the EMP3 in a home theatre system, here is a bit more information... “The EMP 3 is a new balanced multiplayer from Electrocompaniet.  A fully fledged and versatile multiplayer with support for all modern audio & video formats.  New features to this model are a 4K video up-scaling, HDMI input and dual-core processor which gives a quick startup and fast disc loading speed.  With the 2D to 3D Conversion technology you can take your standard DVD, Blu-ray and other video content to the next dimension by converting them into 3D with the simple press of a button.â€.

All cabling will be from the “Ultra†grade line of Transparent Audio (http://www.transparentcable.com/).  We will have the Music Wave Ultra speaker cables ($3390), the Music Link Ultra RCA cables ($1595), Balanced Music Link Ultra XLR cables ($2499) and the High Performance Toslink ($150).

Also on hand will be the all-in-one Cocktail X10 (http://www.cocktailaudio.com/overview_x10.html).  The X10 is a HD HiFi Audio System, CD storage, Music Streamer, Music Server and Advanced Internet Radio.   Retail is $699.

Lastly, we will have the beautiful little Synthesis Brio phono stage from Italy (http://www.synthesis.co.it/prime-brio.php).   Retail is $1899.

The turntable will be the club’s Sugden Connoisseur BD-1 turntable with a Shure V15 Type 3 MM cartridge.

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO.   Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all.   So bring along your favourite music on CD/SACD or vinyl.   All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting.  We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played.  Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind.

Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.  We will welcome you at the door.
