TerryO Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 (edited) After all these years of being told stories by various mates about how much fun they have when they attend the annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride I finally decided I would join in, so I have obtained a Tweed three piece to look the part and have entered my first one here on the Gold Coast. There are rides in all major cities in Australia and many towns. Sydney from what I’m told normally gets around 1000 riders on the day and Melbourne a similar number. Given the number of SNA members who also ride motorcycle it would be interesting to know if anyone else from here also entering their local Ride on Saturday the 21st of May? While the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride originally started here in Australia over a decade ago it is now a world wide phenomenon, with well over 60 countries hosting various rides on the same day globally to raise money for prostate cancer and mens mental health. So while dressing up to look dapper and riding your motorcycle with hundreds of other riders on the day will be great fun it is also for a very worthy cause. They raise funds through either event or rider sponsorship, if anyone would like to find out more about where there are various rides around the country then please click on the Facebook link below. … cheers Terry https://www.gentlemansride.com/rides/australia While there are dozens of videos on YouTube of many of these rides in different countries over the years here is a link to one from the Gold Coast ride last year. TerryO Posted May 8, 2023 Author Posted May 8, 2023 (edited) Less than two weeks until this years Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride on Saturday the 21st May which takes place not only around Australia but in over sixty countries around the globe on the same day. Here in Australia there are thirty seven organised rides one can enter, check out the link below, there are organised rides in all major cities and many towns. As of last night so far over 3700 riders had entered one of the various Australian rides and from what I have read in previous years the number of registered riders doubles in the last two weeks. So it’s not too late to enter your local ride and help raise money for Men’s mental health and Prostate Cancer awareness. Also a big thank you to both Marc and TimD for sponsoring me after my first post about the ride, it was unexpected but very much appreciated. While this ride is for a very worthy cause it is also meant to be a fun day out, with a big part of it being the Pre ride meet up where people mingle and talk motorcycles and get to check out each others rides. The actual ride itself is usually only about an hour long in duration. I have gone the full hog and recently purchased a three piece Tweed suit and Tweed flat cap to attempt, for at least one day per year anyway, to look the part of a well dressed dapper gentleman. There are quite a few SNA members who are also motorcycle riders so if you are so inclined to take part in your local ride then now is the time to look at registering. For those of you who are more into classic cars there is also a Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive in September that is another option. cheers Terry https://www.gentlemansride.com/rides/australia Edited May 8, 2023 by TerryO
