Thinking JC vinyl lately as I have none . so looking for some new vinyl.

Anyone have thoughts on the best vinyl albums, sound and song wise. Are there re-mastered goodies to be got?

Mainly liked his early radio hits .

Mad Dogs looks like one I'll be ordering from Vinyleye soon, unless there are better albums to go for.

Any Help From my Friends will as always be appreciated.

Hi Grumps

Mad Dogs is my favourite JC LP ( but I got into a spot of bother when it first came out, as it was a double LP - so I gave one half to my wife as a Xmas present, and the other half for her birthday 2 days later :))

My current favourite is Organic - extremely well recorded, with great session musos (in 1996) and includes some remakes of his earlier stuff as well as some new songs and new interpretations of other songs - Into the mystic, Sail away etc.  Have a look at the reviews on Amazon.  I only have the CD and don't know if it comes in vinyl though.

cheers

Mick

Thanks Mick It looks like it will be Mad Dogs for now = just hope that if it's a double album I'll get both discs at once. :)

Been checking out his Self titled and his With a little Help albums also

My favourites are " STINGRAY" and "SHEFFIELD STEEL". Both are fantastic recordings, undated performance -wise, and precede the later 'slickness' that his recordings fell prey to.

Mad Dogs and Joe Cocker are my favourites.  I thought Sheffield Steel a bit mild - even then, it was comeback time (and I did go along to see him on the Sheffield Steel tour) so it's interesting to see the critical reapprisal

This from allmusic on the first album

The 1999 A&M reissue not only includes new notes and audiophile-quality sound, but also a pair of bonus tracks, the previously unanthologized B-sides "The New Age of Lily" and "Something Coming On," deserved better than the obscurity in which they previously dwelt.

I also would nominate Sheffield Steel - always get the shivers listening to Ruby Lee, it sounds that good!

Unchain my heart would get the next vote.

Would have to include Cocker Happy for the sheer quality of the songs alone

Buy a second hand copy of Cocker Happy.

It's a cracker.

Yep. Get a well cared for copy though.

This is also a good contender.

I agree, it's a ripper. I have a NZ Axis Records pressing. It's not listed in Discogs though.

Edit: I just found this one in my vinyl collection. Australia only release by EMI.

An even better song selection than the above mentioned, 'cause it contains You are So Beautiful. :)

But I haven't played it for a while, not sure whether any of the tracks are edited to fit all 20 tracks on the LP.

Hey Grumpy ,I have a copy of "COCKER" if you want it. Probably only played once or twice.

PM me if you want it. I work at Kilkenny and do a run to Ethelton at least once a week so could drop it at "The PORT" ...Michael..

I use to be a big fan back in the day and I'm amazed that I haven't any albums of his. Did have a cassette once a long time a go though
