Noticed that Apple released a new version of remote for iTunes (v4).

Whilst I am still to even complete a basic eval on the sound,  some of the horrible lag seems to have been resolved.

EDIT: (see my comment below re sound).  iTunes remote is just a controller

There's apparently a big difference between the iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch UI in this new version. I've only tried the iPhone one so far. Really really loving it, especially the "Album" button on the bottom left of the currently playing screen, so you can jump to view the album from which the current track was taken.

Not sure if I misunderstand you or not.        (the remote app doesn't have any opportunity to affect the sound of iTunes)

Also like the new UI.

Ahh sorry Davewantsmoore I totally left the context out.   Yes you are correct no sound impact, but as a controller iTunes remote was so bad it ruled out iTunes based solutions for me.

I had been a long suffering Amarra user until recently feeding my DACs from a mac mini via USB.    The iTunes app was so bad even though I loved the Amarra sound, it was unworkable.

I ended up trying Jriver (18 and now 19) with the Mac and also bought PSAUDIO DAC with the transport on Stereonet.

So I have started today evaluating the following

1) Amarra 2.6 + OSX Mavericks + iTunes, controlled by iTunes Remote (USB feed into PSAUDIO)

2) Jriver 19 + OSX mavericks (USB feed into PSAUDIO)

3) Jriver 19 + OSX Mavericks (feed via PSAUDIO Bridge)

caveat: cheap USB cable used, all music is remote on a synology NAS

Slightly OT, am  I right in assuming there is still no way to get bit perfect playback out of iTunes on a Windows PC?

Some initial tests based on a song from Tony Joe White's new Album Hoodoo 'Storm Comin'

I Started with this track as as I like it but it seems to suffer from poor separation and/or poor recording.

PSAUDIO bridge was the hands down winner over both USB options (cheap cable impact?).  Tony's voice achieves better separation, and likewise for the guitar from the overall musical "fuzziness" of this track.

Have been using the new apple Remote on iPad to control my headless MacMini and the album artwork loading is much faster than the previous version. Back to Danger Mouse.
