ITEM:  Usher Mini Dancer 2 DMD floor standing speakers (Diamond tweeter)

LOCATION: Moonee Ponds

CONDITION: Very Good

REASON FOR SELLING: I like to make a small fortune from a large one!  No, only joking, found something else that I like too.  Can't have them all.

PRICE: $2400

PICS: Attached

Selling my Usher Mini Dancer 2 DMD loudspeakers.   I bought these speakers earlier in the year, around February, from Matt at the Cable Conneciton.   They were the floor demos so I got a pretty good deal.   They weren't run in and took a good hundred or more hours to loosen up.   I tried a few different amps with these and all worked pretty well, just that some worked better than others.   I ended up with a Primare A32 as the Ushers seemed to like a bit of power and control.

They are a large speaker and weigh about 50kg's each.   The cabinets themselves are heavy enough but they come with a weighty cast bass which they sit on.   Large metal adjustable floor spikes screw into the bass so once they're all set up there's no moving them.   I took them off the spikes for the pics as they are just too hard to move around with the spikes on.   The cast plinth sits a little off the ground with the spikes fitted and they actually sound much better with the spikes.

They are bi-wirable but I found that they prefer just one amp rather than two.  Not sure why but I've never had positive results with bi-wiring in any case.

They are in very good condition with only one very small mark on the bottom of one of the cabinets.   I never saw this mark so it was always out of sight out of mind.   I was going to dab a bit of brown boot polish on this blemish which I'm sure would take care of it but given I'm offereing them up for sale I think it's best to declare it.

The Ushers are reviewed very well all over the world.   The RRP was $5000 but I suspect this will go up with the Aus Dollar falling over the past year.   I have all packing and boxes but am loath to post given size and weight.   Ultimately if someone wants them I will pack and post.

Selling as I've discovered something different, not necessarily better but for me it's a better fit for what I'm looking at.   When I told my wife I was thinking of selling the Ushers she said that she wanted me to keep them as they are the only pair of speakers she's actually liked the look of.   They are really bit but they are quite pleasing to the eye and do have some WAF factor.

They are front ported but do like a bit of space from adjacent walls.  This is my experience with most speakers in my room so it might be a room thing rather than just the speaker.

I can demo these speakers.   Pick up in Moonee Ponds.

I came from Legend Big Reds (active and passive) prior to the Ushers and found that in most areas the Ushers were a step.   The Ushers strenghts lie in the fact that the seem to do everything well with no real weakness.  If anything I find them to be just a touch laid back.  I've read that some find them forward but that's not something I've ever found on any of the amps I tried or sources.  Best results were obtained with a valve pre and solid state amp.

They won the HiFi World loudspeaker of the year in 2013 for what it's worth.

I once owned a pair of these and regret selling them. Just great speakers providing they have room to breathe and an amp with decent current capability, but they are not amp fussy and are very easy to live with.

Quite honestly, anyone who is shopping around for speakers should seriously consider these and @ $2.4K there is no better floorstander for your coin.

GLWS although these should sell quickly if there are bargain hunters around here who want something a bit special

Wow, these are some good looking speakers! Definitely in my price range too.. Though unfortunately I'm in Sydney.

Seeing these had sparked my curiosity. Does anyone know where these may be listened to in Sydney?

All the best with the sale bud!

Couldn't agree more...I've got two pairs of 718s and ran them with a Melody pre and a MF power and sounds sublime.....

+1 Primaluna Pre and Bryston power amp was a great combination on my BE-718

I've been away from this thread for a few days, work's been taking too much of my time.

Valve pre and solid state power worked really well but then Primare pre/power worked well too.   I doubt you'd need a whole lot of power to run these and in fact I tried them out with a Pioneer A400x just for fun and they worked pretty well.   Obviously more quality power the better but it just depends how far up that scale you can justify going.

These are open for demo's and you are welcome to bring your own amps around.

They look as good as the pics and for the money I doubt you could make a speaker in Australia that looks as good and also performs too.   I normally don't take a whole lot of notice of reviews just taking out what I need but so many good reviews makes the message somewhat more valid.
