Alright gang,

I need some help / suggestions in regards to a simple system for the In-laws for Christmas.

Long story short they have a very old Panasonic all in one system, which is about to die and hurts baby Jesus' ears.....(I am baby Jesus).

-Looking second hand prob for the AMP something vintage would look great, not too expensive, Oh also with Phono built in to save extra money and pieces.

-Got my old Yamaha CDS300 to give them, after receiving some ridiculous offers that even made LUC mad.

-Speakers not to sure, but would like new or close to i recon, I was thinking some Paradigm Atoms, from Eastwood HIFI? Or ushers, but not sure where to get them?

-They have a old turntable that will do for now

- i think cables are negligible.

Any suggestions welcome (Looking at LUC for some Sansui advice) :)

If you have something please feel free to offer in here or by PM.

Cheers

Kyle

Personally I would stick to a robust build All In One System again for them be it new or pre loved

I set up a system for the older inlaws and they don't like turning on more than one item so it does not get used very often

How about the Sony amp in the classifieds? Not particularly handsome, but as I understand it, most ES gear was pretty decent. Others wiser that I might shoot me down in flames ...

hey thanks guys, i think if we keep it to the AMp and CD it should be fine, the multi component thing they have now requires them to change multiple things.

I was also looking at the Realistic in the ads? Any comments on that?

As Mr K-K-K says, go the Sony.

It's a far better amp than the Realistic and it is from a time when Sony gear was really the biz.

My dad has a few original Sony ES components that are still running perfectly and sounding great after 30 years. At that price I should buy it myself, but seriously, it's a great buy.

+ 1 with a pair if Usher S520 speakers.

I haven't directly compared them but from memory, the Qs sound just a little bit warmer and laid back than the ushers, but its hard to say in isolation.  If cost is an issue they are worth a try.

I went those Q's in the end picked them up today, great little speaker, gonna start recommend them to People

Kyle did you go for that Sony ES? If you didn't there's a lovely NAD in the FS section.

Geez mate where to start!

I haven't finished mine yet but I have a Sansui amp (I can sort of say that with out really lying too much   as Skippy has my other Sansui's) and a Luxman T-33 tuner (would love to get the matching amp)and an old Denon dd TT that I haven't got round to setting up.

But it's fantastic fun chasing through ebay and gumtree looking for the stuff if you know what your looking for and of course there is the size of your budget as well as your time frame; I'm in no rush and I can generally find a couple of hundred or a tad more if need be if the right thing pops up.

Mind you, if I've been :hiccup  you'd be surprised at the stuff that turns up! That's how I ended up with a Mira3..."Too f/ing cheap I'll stir 'em up with a dummy bid" You know who the dummy is of course...no one else bid after I upped the ante...bastards!

You've all ready got your main system so unless your in a rush then just take your time and work out what you want. If I wasn't hung up on  black faced Sansui's I'd like to chase an all Yammy system from the 80's or earlier. Just become an Ebay/Gumtree addict like me and Hi-Fi-do and Yahoo JP and....it never stops Kyle, be afraid, be very afraid :thumb:

Looks like a great system for not a lot of bucks. Hope it sounds as good as it looks.

Glad I could help :):welcome:

Thanks again, it does sound good. really surprised with the speakers aye. might grab a set for the study. Misses came home and asked what was playing as she couldn't believe the sound from them and not the big one.

BTW keep your eyes peeled my system is under renovation. To be revealed before christmas

Nice mate, glad to see your moving along the highway we're all travelling on.

Love your TT, chuckle at your standmounts(the stands) as I did the same thing with my Quads(chucked two stools under 'em) and stare in recognition at your acme cable management system.

Neat looking speakers aren't they with the rolled edges and vinyl covering(at least it looks like vinyl woodgrain. My Silverlines are the same).
