givendale
Hi All, Have not been looking at the forums lately because we have been on holidays for 5 weeks. Anyway, we had some house sitters look after the house so that we did not have to put the animals into kennels etc. My problem is this; Before we went away my Anthem AVR was behaving perfectly however it has now developed a load popping noise whenever a component switches on and it receives a signal or whenever the signal is lost i.e when the HTPC stops sending an audio signal via HDMI. Does any have any ideas about what could cause this issue and what would be the best way of working out the root cause might be? Not really interested in having it out with the house sitters as they are friends. Thanks in advance for any clues Givendale.
LogicprObe
Probably nothing they did anyway.............and not being familiar with that amp...........but is there anything in the menu like 'Mute channels until audio detected'?

ellrotts
I had this issue with my NAD C372, when changing channels it got massive "pops" After opening it up we identified there were a few larger resistors with dry solder joints and there was a zener diode that was a bit undersized and was dry also. we re wet the solder on both sides and presto, fixed. Looked as if it was a heat issue. the resistors were getting pretty warm and eventually hurt the solder. Open the old girl up and look for some heat tranish on the board and for sub par solder joints on the print.
Zaphod Beeblebrox
A curly issue. You could start by disconnecting everything from the AVR, except the loudspeakers. Try the switching. If the fault remains, then your AVR may require attention. If not, then reconnect each item (ONE AT A TIME) and see what happens. You may find that the fault occurs with one, specific, component connected.
Grumpy
I'd be checking all the cables for secure fit first. (RCA HDMI Power etc) Edited November 1, 2013 by Grumpy
givendale
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will have a crack at trouble shooting tomorrow and report back.
givendale
Hi all, here are the results of some testing that was by no means exhaustive but I think shows a pattern. All inputs disconnected or powered SB3 analogue input, - • On - no pop • Off - pop HTPC HDMI input • On - pop, but only after the sb3 has been used. If just turning on and off from htpc input no pop • Off - no pop BDP, HDMI input • On - pop, but only after the sb3 has been used. If just turning on and off from BDP input no pop • OFF - no pop TV, HDMI output, toslink input • On - pop, but only after the sb3 has been used. If just turning on and off input no pop • Off - pop BDP -analogue input • On - no pop • Off pop Connect SB3 • On - no pop • Off - pop Connect HTPC • On - change from analogue to hdmi pop, on, off, on no pop • Off - no pop Connect BDP • ON - change from analogue to hdmi pop, on, off, on no pop • Off - no pop. Connect TV • On - change from analogue to hdmi pop, on, off, on no pop • Off - pop Hmmm I think it means that there is an issue with the analogue inputs. Any thoughts. Its going to be a PITA if I have to take it to be repaired
