I have spent many hours searching and researching, in the hope that I would find a media player to suit my requirements.

The long & short of it is that I was unsuccessful in my search. I am hoping someone here can help me.

I wish to replace my Cambridge Audio CD Player with a media player. I just want to replace one box with another box.

These are my prerequisites

Stand alone unit (no pc)

Analogue phono output

Play at least 192kHz (flac) audio files

Wireless not required

Connection of a HDD or SSD via usb

Exceptional sound quality

Not costing an arm & a leg :)

All responses will be appreciated

What do you constitute and arm and a leg?

Oppo 105AU can all of the above, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'Analogue phono output'

Safe to assume that this refers to "analogue RCA outputs" - same as the CDP

I you like your Cambridge audio stuff then a steam magic would fit the bill, although the USB A connector is in the front, alternatively you could Ethernet connect it to a cheap nas.

Edit: I meant stream magic. I need to steam my iPhone!

As a bonus you could also use the 'steam magic' for ironing duties  :D

Oppo and Cambridge Audio universal players will do all you ask and still play all disc types.

Thank you to all that have responded.

I am trying to keep it under $2k.

I don't really require a disc spinner. I just want it play 192kHz (min) files from a HDD or SSD.

Used Squeezebox Touch then.

And have $1700 left over for beer.

Pioneer N-50 will do all that you want except the HDD playback via USB.  If the HDD is on your network however your get the music.  Around $950.

I own one myself, does everything you asked and much more, including USB3.0, YouTube, ability to add android games.
