ellrotts Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 title says it all. Any avid spearos here? where are you from? What kind of fish do you get in that area?
b.d Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Me! Was doing a bit off mates boat north of Perth near Lancelin and Rotto, Spanish Mackerel and Kingies mostly, but whittled it down a bit the last year or two due to the lurkies. Now I'm in Scandanavia where water is colder and fish are small, mostly cod, flatfish and pollock, but at least no sharks. Spent a year in Brisbane, probably my best spearing off Tweed Heads, cant remember the name of the spots though. Hows about you? 1
Decky Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Absolutely - here is my latest adventure. My gear is a bit basic but does the job. 1
A J Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 My uncle speared a record kingfish back in NZ at 115 pounds - I spent most of my younger years spearing over there - Been wanting to get into it here in Sydney but too many fish here bite back for my liking. My regular hire car driver here (when I had a freaking job) goes out most days and he has many occasions when he has to fight the bities off haha
ellrotts Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 I do all my diving off Mackay QLD out at the reef nailing everything from trout to Spanish. Im pretty lucky as I have access to a 32ft game boat. Never really got into the comp diving as I dont like the competative atmmosphere. went to the aussies titles a fair while back to see what its all about. No shortage of bities here because the water is warm but there are no Great whites. Nothing beats getting tuned up by a tiger shark though.

Freedom Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I do a bit of spearfishing. Started off a few years back with a handspear then progressed to a gun (Rob Allen 900)! I just snorkel around my local points and reefs and get Blackfish, Bream, Whiting and I caught a decent sized Salmon once. I also speared a 'Groper' (oops), when it was behind a Blackfish I was aiming at! Glad the fisheries didn't catch me. It would have seemed like a lame excuse.....but it honestly happened! :nana
b.d Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Used to dive a lot without my gun, heres one from when I was living in Dahab 1
