betty boop Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) We finished watching the 50th anniversary release of Breakfast at Tiffany's on blu-ray. Though I know its a classic, its a movie somehow had never watched before or knew anything about. Having finally seen it both wife and I were quite taken by it. Really like the feel of the movie, the characters, beautiful acting and really nicely made. They definitely don't make movies like this anymore... On blu-ray it looks particularly special. lovely release this one and with a lovely soundtrack with its signature song. I don't think its been restored or anything for this release but still looks pretty special. Took some screen shots will give some ideas how it looks Edited May 11, 2014 by :) al 1

Super Mustud Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 It was most probably Mickey Rooney's career low point, but overall a great movie. We watched it again last year and really enjoyed. 1
betty boop Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 did some reading and indeed the film had been restored for this release, some discussion here on the film from paramounts vp of preservation and restoration http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Exclusive-Paramounts-VP-of-Preservation-and-Restoration-Talks-Breakfast-at-Tiffanys-Blu-ray/9554 amazing to read this is the 4th time he as re mastered the film ! definitely some soft focus shots, which is typical he says with any of the Audrey Hepburn close ups. as in the ones below

betty boop Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Soft focus is good. That is how the real world looks. I hate strong acutance. yes I really like the look of the film, beautifully filmed. am very glad the restorations have been kind to it...ie doesn't end up devoid of any film look and feel of the what is amazingly a production from over 50 years ago ! like it was filmed yesterday. feel quite privileged to watch a film like this produced as they have here
Guest Misterioso Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 yes moon river is pretty special isn't it. won the movie an academy award and a grammy for the song as well. hard to imagine a movie studio exec was actually wanting to delete the song !thank goodness no one listened to him hehe At least they used Audrey's own voice for the song - unlike her singing in My Fair Lady where she was dubbed by someone else. What a shame.
mello yello Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Aww man I love this movie, absolutely infatuated by Audrey Hepburns class and charisma when I was a young lad really was one of the all time special movies of all time...fantastic colours and print even back then ...oops...umm... ...yeahhh tsalright 1
mello yello Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Audrey Hepburn... they just dont make them like that anymore...
betty boop Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 oh yeah audrey, some more screen shots... 1

mello yello Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Great film a a bit of a favourite ours. Some pretty dark subject matter though. The Holly Golightly character is is an escort and the Paul 'Fred' Varjak character is a gigolo ; ) Mickey Rooney plays a great character in Mr.Yunioshi. according to the books author, Truman Capote, he describes Holly as an American Geisha and originally wanted Marilyn Monroe to play the part in the film. I think Hepburn nails the part 2
Guest Muon Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 This is one of my all time favorite movies. Must make a point of watching again, thanks for the memory Audrey Hepburn is always amazing!
illusion Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Audrey was stunning, my wife and I recently re-watched Roman Holiday, another of her classics. 1
unclemack Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 For a while I played this BluRay on the new Panasonic 65VT50A (last year) and all the youngsters kept telling me how crappy the picture was...(it wasn't) because they were so used to the commercial demo content via horribly saturated LED panels... Poor souls, they really have no idea. this is a beautiful film given a lovely transfer which looks mervellous via BD. cheers M 1
betty boop Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 agree um, a beautifull film i agree, a lovely on blu-ray, but appreciate perhaps a bit passé for some ! ohwell their loss ilusion, thankyou for reminder of roman holiday...not a movie have seen but know well of it, have actually held myself back from watching as probably bring back some memories of my late mum whom in her younger days used to love whizzing around on her vespa just as I believe audrey did in roman holiday
Jliang70 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Apart from the main characters in this movie, I also love the cute little Cat.
Addicted to music Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Apart from the main characters in this movie, I also love the cute little Cat. Where?
mello yello Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 you probably saw this on Google Audrey Hepburns birthday today 1
colinm1 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 birthdsay girl!!! that Truman Capote, was a weird sort of guy,i saw him in a interview chat show, with other guests including groucho , it was clear he didn't like being in the same room as Truman, great writer though
Addicted to music Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Got a chance to watched this a couple of days ago. Have to say what a talented actress Audrey Hepburn is. She is so ideal for this role and absolutely nails it. They don’t act or make movies like this anymore. Brilliant, simply brilliant.... @AL, thanks bro, otherwise I would have just let this one slide
