petng Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Man all these different output tubes on different versions of the dac is very confusing. I have the L4 ver 3 with 6h6p tube. Lucaz makes a a lot of sing and dance about the virtues of this tube throughout his site and that it out performs all other tubes. He even states that it is being used in his website. Yet I am reading that 6h6p is not in the current L4. Why? In my manual, Lucaz has stated that the 6h6p cannot be rolled? Is that a lot of BS? Has anyone rolled their 6h6p with great results?
unclekanus Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Hi petng, Personally I wouldn't bother. The 6N6 is an amazingly good tube. Better even than the 6h30 which sells for stupid money if you can get a "NOS" version. If you are really keen, you can look into an E182CC and an adapter as the pinouts are different. That would also allow you to try the 5687. That would probably be a $100 exercise though. There are some Russian 6n6 tubes on the bay at the moment with gold pins and gold grids for much less money. I just bought 10 of them. Cheers Chris
Nada Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) I reckon follow Lucaz's advice. I also think its a bonus not being tempted into rolling different tubes types as it saves so much time and money Its always nice to have some spares on hand. Maybe stock up on some http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10-pcs-Gold-pins-Gold-Grid-6N6P-ECC99-E182CC-6N6-dual-triode-NEW-NOS-NIB-/131021768914?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item1e818188d2 Edited October 29, 2013 by Nada
