pete_mac
Item: audio-gd DAC3SE with DSP1V5 - 4 x PCM1704UK, 3 x R-CORE transformersLocation: Ingleburn, south-western Sydney Price: $750 - SOLDItem Condition: Excellent - very minor cosmetic wear, and a small section of the right hand side 'rack ear' has some wear from rubbing of the packing material. Functionally 10/10.Reason for selling: considering a downgrade/simplification of my digital setupPayment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD OnlyExtra Info: I can't believe that I'm even considering doing this, as this is the DAC that I lusted after for some time, having owned a NFB3 (2 x WM8741), DAC19DSP (2 x PCM1704UK) and a Reference 5 (4 x PCM1704UK). This is one of Kingwa's old-school DACs with the diamond differential circuit design. Four of the legendary PCM1704UK chips are under the bonnet. The original DF1704 digital receiver board has been replaced with the DSP1v5 digital board, featuring selectable oversampling settings, phase locked loop settings, and different stopband attenuation settings. I much prefer the sound of this digital board over the original. Input is via SPDIF or BNC and output is via single-ended RCA. If you require a USB input, I have an audio-gd DI V1 with Tentlabs XO which I can include for an extra $100. It's a fantastic sounding DAC. Whilst it is not as outright detailed as some brand-new DACs, this sucker has tone, timbre and musicality in spades. She's a big sucker at 48cm x 43cm x 14cm and 13kg. The chassis is solid aluminium. This unit features three R-core transformers (one for the digital stage, and one for each analogue stage). Some DAC3's featured toroids. Not this one This is one of Kingwa's 'muscle-car' DACs. I note that this DAC runs warm (as per Kingwa's older diamond differential DACs). This is a consequence of the circuit design. It is not suited to being housed inside a closed cabinet without ventilation. In free air or on a rack, there is no problem I'd be more than happy to receive no EOIs whatsoever regarding this DAC, as it would force my hand to keep it. However, if you are interested, please let me know. Pick-up from Ingleburn, south-western Sydney, or Guildford (near Parramatta) by arrangement. I may consider shipping, but only as a last resort. I have the original box and packing materials. Pictures: Edited November 7, 2013 by pete_mac

rictee
I'm in the wrong state too but interested to know how this compares to a Reference 5 (apart from the lack of XLR out)?
pete_mac
The diamond differential DACs like the DAC3 have a more organic sound compared to the Ref 5 which is quite neutral and accurate. I like each of them for different reasons, but the DAC3 really floats my boat. Edited October 30, 2013 by pete_mac
