Administrator StereoNET Posted October 27, 2013 Administrator Posted October 27, 2013 OK maybe the title was a little misleading, but as a BIG Pearl Jam fan through my teens, they feature heavily in my memories of high school, may have been present when I discovered alcohol (and possibly other substances), and so many great times so my earlier years. So it's disappointed me that I hadn't enjoyed a singe album (or concert) since Vitalogy (nearly 20 years ago) .... until NOW! Gave Lightning Bolt a spin tonight, and they've got me back. Some tracks on the album is a little heavy compared to what I tend to listen to these days, but most enjoyable. It's quite balanced actually.Any other Pearl Jam fans here?I'm tempted to head to Big Day Out next year just to see them play this album live. \ 1
Capone Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Its great to hear the latest album is getting good reviews. im a big fan as well, I even like Eddie Vedders solo stuff ,although its not for everyone
ThirdDrawerDown Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Is the mix any good? I keep on bouncing out of Pearl Jam albums because the mixes and arrangements don't let me in.
Guest JohnA Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 not a fan as such, but willing to give it a spin to see what i think.
Guest Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Yeah I liked Eddie's solo also, but I don't consider that Pearl Jam, as it was a completely different style and sound. I've only been listening to Lightning Bolt, flac with Burson Conductor and B+W P7's so far, and the mix seems possibly the best I have heard for Pearl Jam in a long time. Would be interested in your thoughts.
Guest Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Fan from the good ol days - look forward to hearing their latest effort - liked that track you posted Marc 1
Phantom Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I kinda like the new direction, although I was always liked the band anyway and followed their development from formation. I will definitely be interested in any more future releases.
Guest Muon Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I don't mind them.. In ya' teens? god I feel old
Guest Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Well yeah I didn't realise it had been 20 years from my senior high school days until the other night checking out what year their albums were released. It made me feel old! 35 - perhaps I should think about doing something with my life now! I've never liked their fast tempo, thrash it out stuff (with the exception of Porch). I played in a Pearl Jam cover band around the same time (20 years ago), and used to love belting that song out. 1

I never thought I would end up listening to the likes of Jazz, let alone be a fan........... time passes so quick, and changes are inevitable!
Decky Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I would say that a virtue for anyone is when one learns to let things go. That is what I did with Pearl Jam. Maybe they should start doing the same.
metal beat Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) I think I would rather spend my bucks on the new Brad aka Stone Gossard album. Edited October 28, 2013 by turntable
ferchersan Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I never thought I would end up listening to the likes of Jazz, let alone be a fan........... time passes so quick, and changes are inevitable! Me too. Jazz, folk, any of the stuff my parents listened to! Groucho Marx said "Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana". When I was in HS, I played guitar in a band too, I haven't played in years. I'm going to give "Ten" a quick spin now for old times sake. It's the same CD I bought with my pocket money all those years ago 1
Guest Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 While on Pearl Jam, not sure what I make of this:
Guest Muon Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) I like it! Edit: I do tend to like female vocals. Edited October 28, 2013 by ortofun
kramered Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Was/is a fan of the old stuff. Rear View Mirror was one of my favourite Pearl Jam tracks and I remember belting that out at "11" on Tannoy 12-inch monitors. Awesome. Also like the band 'Satchel' somewhat related to Pearl Jam via one of the guitarists... EK 1
Guest Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Sitting in the office tonight, I had it playing and my wife commented "sounds like the old Pearl Jam" .... interesting as that's what I have been saying.
