Just getting back into the vinyl. I got this really nice direct drive TT from a fellow SNAer as my re-entry table.. Thought I'd post a few pics here. Been really great to spin the record again..

Bought myself a new album last week, (John Mayer), after many years...  I've done a little research on the table, and some guys reckon it's a nice one. Certainly wil be upgrading the cart very shortly..Nice arm on it...

Be great to get some better cart recommendations for this set-up from you TT gurus. Certainly there is a buget cart in there currently. $50-$70?? A few others guys have indicated that the TT and arm can take a reasonable cart as an upgrade.

I don't have squillions of $$ to spend. Maybe $300 - $500 would get a nice upgrade? I have looked at the Ortofon 2M stuff so far. 2M Bronze? Used is an option, but I'd need guiance on this too.

Thanks for any advice..

Hi Stephen, the Victor can definitely accommodate a better cartridge. I was using it with a Benz Micro Ace which goes for around $800 new and they were a great combination. If a lightly used one comes up around your budget, grab it! The 2M Bronze would be a good match or for an MC, the Audio Technica ET33 PTG or EV could be a good option for a quite up front presentation. Another MC option might be the Ortofon Vivo Blue which has a very neutral but not quite as forward sound as the AT. One other option might be the Denon DL-103R or better yet, a 're-bodied' one - I think Brownemi had one he might have been looking at letting go.

I've got a couple of cartridges sitting idle at the moment which you'd be welcome to borrow for a few weeks to get a feel for what different cartridges can offer - an Ortofon 2M Blue and a Pickering XSV3000 with stereohedron stylus (fabulous cartridge). Happy to come over and set it up as well (any excuse to see and hear that new Sansui)!

Well after some fiddling around with the different carts finally had a "proper" listen to the TT today. First audition was hampered by an ground/earth loop/ hum/noise issue. But got that sorted with the help of Greg - thanks again.

i have the Pickering XSV-3000 cartridge in, on loan from Greg and it really sounds sweet. I'd forgotten how nice a properly set up TT can sound, with a new record on the platter. I'm happy listening to vinyl again. Now I need to re-build my album collection with new vinyl. I aint going to put any of my old crappy records under this cart!

I need to re-learn my TT skills, take a little while but I'm learning as I go along. The Victor sure sounds good to me, So good I think I'm going to get another one! Looks like I've got the TT bug now.
