Was listening to either the ABC Jazz show* or perhaps QF inflight jazz  and they were playing tracks from a Modern Jazz Quartet "best of".   Mentally made a note to get a copy.

 

It's probably a recent release so should be easy to find

 

 

(*do tune in before the Mad Monk pays  Murdoch back for all that support)

I'm surprised that no one mentioned 'Jazz at the Pawnshop'..  definately one of the best out there but probably done to death!

 

If you've started with Diana Krall..then Melody, Patricia, Norah, Sara K, Eva should be on the list..

 

and once you've done the likes of Miles, Coltrane, Chet Barker etc...look up Sun-Ra Arkestra..pretty trippy even for me!

Probably because JATP is overrated. Just relistened to the SACD and apart from being audiophilia it doesn't do much for me.
