Zodiac-12 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hi everyone... My older brother intent to buy the Ayon CD5s on this Site, But I'm thinking about is it better if he buying the ML 383 + Oppo-105 using as a CD player. Caused the price of the Ayon CD5s are very close to ML 383 + a brand new Oppo-105 Any opinion? thanks
henry218 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 ayon cd5 is cd/pre, ML 383 is integrated amp, am i missing something?? ML always have certain standards on their product, especially the older ones, i dont see any reason not to get the ML
Guest JohnA Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 asking here is no way to decide you need to listen to both to be sure. they ayon is a brilliant cd player, is the 105 as good, i dont know, never heard it, so not going to just make stupid remarks. I doubt too many people here would have compared them side by side to give an unbiased opinion.
Zodiac-12 Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 My point is the Ayon cd5 is very good Sound.we all know that, But If connect the Oppo 105 into Mark Levinson 383 Integrated Amp.Is it better sound than the Ayon cd5 itself?.Also comapred with the asking price the between Ayon cd5 and the ML 383, the Ayon cd5 almost $1000 more than ML 383. Which can buy a brand new Oppo 105 @ Local shop for $300 Extra if buying the ML 383. IMO
Winter Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I'll go ayon and the 383 or a 331/332 or the parasound a21 Meridian 557/559. Lots of great options.
henry218 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 if we are comparing predictable results for either of the 2, i supposed if the current amp is not as powerful as the ML, likely the ML + oppo combined will make a better sound, but i supposed the ayon offers refinements that the oppo might lack of. its pure suggestive i have no experience on any equipment above, but looking at quality of ML amps, it will have more influence than the cd player.

IMO does your friend need an integrated or a pre amp? the ayon is a cd player with built in pre amp, the ML is an integrated amp. does he have a power amp he will be using? or does he also need a power amp. I am just wondering hwy he would be looking at the ML integrated if he only need a pre amp. If he only needs a pre amp, then the one box count of the ayon would be the way i would go. Having heard these cd players, they are brilliant and work very well as a pre amp also.

My Brother He's got Musical Fidelity A1000 Class A Amp, He's just need the good CD player, But when I point out about this, then He's think it's a good idea caused we never Heard the sound of Mark Levinson before. Also his Sony S1E Blu-ray Player out of dated . So he's can have a new Oppo 105 for his Blu-ray player up to date as well. I'd point out for him that using Oppo 105 HDMI to the AVR for movies & XLR into ML 383 for Music if he's buying it. So is that make a good idea or not ?..... Edited October 27, 2013 by hifiorwife
Guest JohnA Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 well i cant comment on how well the 105 sounds as a cd player, suppose at the end of the day, if he is looking for an all in one box to do blu ray, dvd and music, then the 105 may be the way to go

I had a sony bdps1e myself its long outdated and especially if using hdmi just about any player you buy these days will easily surpass it as a player. you dont need to pony up for something like the oppo 105 either. any $100 brand name blu-ray player will do the job. DoggieHowser Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Finally transferred the ML2 Limiteds to my study. I am using the Ayon CD5S as a tube preamp/buffer for my Playback Designs MPS-5 and IMHO it is a pretty damn good preamp feeding my Plinius SA-Reference. Had almost forgotten how enjoyable it was listening to music in the study. It's a smaller room (only 4x3m) which Mike claims would be too small to do the ML2s justice but there's an intimate feel to the music, like being in a small jazz club rather than a concert hall.

Thanks Al Thanks for your Advice. Yes The MF A1000 very nice Sound. Finally he's had found the Meridian 508.24 @ a Local shop in Clayton.Melbourne ( second hand ) come with all manual/RC/Box & they happy for him to trade in his Sony Blu-ray + $750 cash. It's gonna happen today. For me just $750 cash for the High End CD Player From Meridian Is a Really Bargain. Caused that's CD Player is a Legendary has Many Great Reviews around the World. Also I suggest for him to buy a cheap blu-ray player around $300 mark should be OK. Just Like your recommended Edited October 27, 2013 by hifiorwife

Hi Doggie, How does the DAC section of the CD5S compare to the MPS-5? Thanks, gav.
DoggieHowser Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'm usually partial to the DSD DAC in the Playback. The Ayon's quad PCM1704 is a different sound and I sometimes find myself enjoying RBCD on it. But the DSD DAC I feel is more resolving and I am able to better make out the separation of instruments in more complex pieces.
