Jumbuck Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) I am looking at getting a new amp and thought of going for tubes as haven't gone that path before. Would like peoples opinions/experiences on how Elac speakers (I have 249BE's 4ohm 90db) and tube amps go together. I have read a few comments from people saying SS is best for them and in particular Primare. I am looking at a Consonance 880i (100w) tube amp so plenty of power but being in WA makes it very hard to audition first. Wasn't sure whether I should have posted this in the amp or speaker section but hopefully people read both :-) Edited October 28, 2013 by Jumbuck
gypr1961 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Hi I had 247s for a few years and was always disappointed with the bass, moved up to 248s still not the bass I wanted, it was the amps. They need big amps, they can dip very low, there is an article somewhere telling you the stats, valves won't cut it tried quite a few.
DAMO 1147 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I believe you will get better results from SS with Elac's they team well with Plinius gear too.
Dave59 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I have a hybrid tube/ss integrated (Vincent SV-236) which drives my FS247s nicely - worth a listen - think the amp delivers 250W/channel into 4 Ohms
