tallman5353 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Hi everyone, I have decided to record my vinyls to digital so i can listen to them in the car. I have started with RCHP's Stadium Arcadium as the LP version is 100x better than the cd master. I am recording using audacity on my 08 Macbook Pro. It is set to record 92/24 via the line in. Here is a shot of another person's attempt at recording the title track from the Album And here is my attempt Notice how mine seems to reach a ceiling during the loud parts whereas the first one makes full use of the music, I even recorded it a little quieter but still the same effect. I didn't think this would happen unless i have some settings wrong? Any help would be great. Cheers

Especially your cart, phono pre-amp and sound card ( I don't know whether the MacBook Pro has a reasonable sound card built in ) but doubt that it has RCA connects. Also 92/24 seems a bit odd, I would have expected 96/24, unless your sound card is a limiting factor? A full shot of your Audacity screen might also help. Boots.
Egres Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Agree full description of how you are recording would help. Anyway this may be the problem, was with my first attempts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization
