Saxon Hall Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I'm keen to come and I can tell JohnA about my trip to the Fat Duck Was Heston manning the kitchen?
proftournesol Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Probably not, we were there for lunch, dinner is too expensive as you have to stay in Bray for the night, leave early to catch the last train or add a 100 pound taxi far to return to London.
warrengday Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Eureka (tower) Guys, I have it. Sawasdee, Thai Restaurant, 139 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne Big place on the 1st floor. TWO great things about this place. ONE: the food, the service, yada yada yada. TWO: the live music. This young Thai guy plays a baby grand piano AND takes requests. And it seems he can play ANYTHING: classical music, Metallica, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, 1950s show and movie tunes. ANY THING. For the record, I've not eaten at The Fat Duck in Bray, though a friend has, said it was the best food he's ever ever had. Very very expensive, and very very very difficult to get a table, its fully booked months in advance and had to get several colleagues at work all to phone at the same time to get through. Also it is a long way to go, and I'm only just over 100 miles away from it at the moment. Surprisingly the best meal I had recently and one of the best meals I've ever had (completely local wild fresh ingredients) was in the village pub opposite the local railway station of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

davidsss Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Not crazy about Chinese, Thai is nicer. How about something Italian in Lygon St? City is central. DS 1
Addicted to music Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 This is out of the ordinary not central but some good cheap tucker, Can cater up to a 100 easy, is buffet and around the $30-40. On w/ends has seafood included in the Buffet. Must book early as you cannot walk in of the street, its basically booked out, especially w/ends Different variety of food and not just Chinese. Has a band playing in the bar area, that is outside away from the the buffet resturant, and a lounge where there is a piano. its Sanctuary Lakes Hotel in the west! http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/71/1734519/restaurant/Melbourne/Sanctuary-Lakes-Hotel-Point-Cook

Guest Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I've had great difficulty in trying to find a venue that can cater for the numbers, offer a flat price per head (set menu), without xmas functions and bookings already. We may have left it a little late.
