wikeeboy Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I'm after a US to AUS adapter. Is there anything a little better than the travel adapters you find at airports? The best I have found is these: http://www.vhaudio.com/images/vhaussie.jpg I ordered some from addicted2audio but they arrived today and they only take the top two prongs of the US plug and the aus plug only has the top two prongs as well. By only using the top two prongs of the us and aus sides what difference does this make if any? thanks for any comments
Saxon Hall Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I have seen the ones that Addicted to Audio sell and they are good quality. Obviously they are designed for Double Insulated products which do not require an Earth Pin
eman Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I use 'better than basic' universal adapter for a UK plug and it works fine for me.
wikeeboy Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Excuse my ignorance but how do i know if the component does not require the earth pin? Thanks
GregWormald Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 CAREFUL!! The items shown are plug adaptors, not power adaptors, and will do nothing about the voltage mismatch. Plugging a 120 volt US appliance into our 240 volt supply will likely have very sad consequences. Greg 1
wikeeboy Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Hi Greg Appreciate the wise warning! I have 2 monobloc amps which i have aftermarket power cables for. The amps are 240v so no conversion required. I just need an adpapter so i can plug my US style power cables direct to the wall. The adapters i have purchased have only 2 prongs on the aus side for plugging into the wall so i'm wondering what difference that will make, and also how to know if my amps should have the earth pin? Thanks!

Thanks! ever thought of just re-terminating your power cables I see you are in NSW PM Cameron from krispy kables, a member and sponsor on here and get him to re-terminate your cables with some nice aussie plugs instead of using cheap travel adaptors
DoggieHowser Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Don't the Australian and US plugs have reverse polarity for live and neutral connections? So if you use the adaptor, the polarity would be incorrect.

Thanks! If the current plugs have only two prongs then (theoretically) the amps are double insulated and don't need & probably shouldn't have ground connections. I used to use a pair of pliers to bend the twin prongs to the correct angle for Australian sockets and never had an issue. If they have 3 prongs the best option is to change the plugs over rather than use an adaptor. If you know how to do it, fine. If not, get a friendly sparky to do it for you. Greg
WhakPak Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 These will work..wall>australian iec>adapter>us iec>component. http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=AQIEC3US
Guest Multidimension Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Um Greg, when you bend the pins on a US 2-pin plug and plug it into an Australian wall outlet, to what do you suppose the fuse inside the amplifier is connected?
