unclemack Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Good to see it's not very Anglo-centric.... Cheers M 2
metal beat Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 the Strokes @ no 4? I am not even sure " the Queen is Dead " is the Smiths best album 3
wolster Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Just tried to play a few of the albums that I was not familiar with on Spotify. Won't be playing them again. 1
Batty Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Wrong..... there is no Marillion or Horslips sent via experia Z 1
adamg Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 That's a pretty ridiculous list. The only ones worth considering (IMO and taking into account its pop/rock only) would be Velvet Underground and the White Album. Other good albums there but best 25 of all time ? 1
Capone Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 No Back in Black from Ac/Dc? Or Bat out of Hell (I know meat loaf is a tool but great album) 1
caddisgeek Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 No Stones in the top 10 but 2 Beatles albums? Pahleease! 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Oasis.Now I know they're joking:-) 2

Monty Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) You can't expect to agree entirely with such lists. They're meant to be fun; a prompt for lighthearted debate. But it's hard to find much at all to agree with in this one. They're mostly pretty good albums - I have 19 of them - but only 5 or 6 would threaten my top 100 or so. The things that strike me about this particular list are: - the British bias - which comes as no particular surprise, British music mags are notorious for this. - the fading of the 60s cannon - which does come as a bit of a surprise because that stuff is typically over represented in lists like these. It makes sense that 60s representation should be diminished over time by simple weight of releases since, but I'm not sure that many of the more recent inclusions here are worth their place over old usual suspects like Blonde on Blonde, Let It Bleed, Astral Weeks... Saxon Hall Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) In the immortal words of Daffy Duck - " Ha , Ha, it is to laugh!!!". DM. That list is despicable Edited October 24, 2013 by holdencaulfield2007
Hifiplus Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Ummm Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, The Police geez I can think of a lot more bands that should be there. 1

I own 24 of them and all are excellent albums, but totally agree. Best 25 of all time - nope. 2
zog Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 As someone who used to read a fair bit of NME it's a predictable list. Next up, discussion about the snubbing Manhattan Transfer gets in the Kerrang greatest album charts...
sligoriverblues Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Hehe... Quite entertaining... Now, does anyone still take NME seriously? No tongue in cheek here...
emesbee Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 What? Top 25 albums of all time, and no blues or jazz? Whoever compiled that list obviously has a very limited musical education. 2
mondie Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Love The Smiths but that album no.1? Seems like a shot at cheap publicity to me. Certainly a mixed list 1
kana Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Some very solid albums on the list, but greatest of all time ... I seriously doubt it. But would you expect anything different from NME.
caddisgeek Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I had to smile seeing Public Enemy in there Not even their best album though 1
davidsss Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 No Stones in the top 10, ridiculous. Smiths at No 1, ridiculous. White album anywhere near the top 1,000, ridiculous (can't see why people rate it so highly, a very patchy effort and many better Beatles albums to choose from). Oasis mentioned on the top million, ridiculous. No Hendrix, ridiculous. Some decent records there, and some which would make my top 25, Revolver certainly would. But many of these albums have not stood the test of time and are nowhere near making it into a top 25. These lists are usually a good distraction but this one is just . . . well . . . ridiculous. DS
