Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted October 23, 2013 Volunteer Posted October 23, 2013 Hi All, I currently have my power amp sitting on the floor behind one of my speakers but I would like to put it on a small, low rack. What I'm after is essentially a two-shelf rack thatI can place two components on (ie bottom shelf and a "lid"). Any suggestions?

Guest JohnA Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 how short and what size spacing would be required solid tech make an amp rack like this, stands 300mm tall, but doesnt seem to have much space between shelves they also do a 2 shelf unit, but that takes it up to 600, and IMHO you would be better off grabbing the 3 shelf version at the same high the 2 shelf radius version however stands at 460mm height and i am sure you could go shorter by customising yourself and asking for shorter legs between the shelving units not sure on your budget though, but if interested in these, speak to cameron of Krispy Kables, as he deal in them
firefly0071 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Slightly off topic, why do people place hifi components close to the ground? In our place, people will trip over it and I don't want to kneel to change a knob etc.

Ideally I want something as small and discreet as possible (with adequate ventilation) that will "hide" behind my speakers Edited October 24, 2013 by whatmore
krebetman Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) How about Townshend? http://www.townshendaudio.com/hi-fi-home-cinema-equipment-vibration-isolation-platform/ edit: they also do multiple shelves too - got distracted by the title of the thread... Edited October 24, 2013 by krebetman

Chill3 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I use these http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/50198414/ replace the casters with http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20175503/ Come in Black / White and Wood These have the "light but stiff" Lack tops that are well known for use with turntables, but are stronger build. 1
Guest Muon Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 After seeing how much activity that Salma thread gets here, I was even surprised to see a mention of "small rack" Could always make a 'mini' Flexy stand.
Guest Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Sorry to hijack, can anyone tell me the internal width of those Lack side-tables please?
hochopeper Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Sorry to hijack, can anyone tell me the internal width of those Lack side-tables please? I'll measure it tonight, just a touch wider than a 19in rack mount enclosure though.
tesla13BMW Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I got these and got a piece of polished tile to go on top of them. I have my monoblocks sitting on them. No lid though. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-Amp-Stands-UpTo-325lb-Amp-Monoblock-Speaker-Spikes-FREE-SHIPPING-WORLDWIDE-/261233006713?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item3cd2b35879

Would probably prefer open sides for better ventilation. Out of interest, do you know how much weight each shelf can carry? My amp is 25kg

My amp is 25kg Yep side ventilation can be an issue, there about 1cm wider than a standard amp I have a MF A1 amp and are these do run hot, and I have no issues, I think because the front to back ventilation is so good, but could be an issue for amps that have side heat sinks. Not sure of the weight spec, Ikea do not say, but I have a GT 2000 on one top shelf no issues - that weighs about 25kg and no issues, the sides are solid and support all the weight
Guest Muon Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 A low (small) flexy stand can be discrete and it provides as much ventilation as you want. This link gives yo an idea of Flexy Stands https://www.google.com.au/images?q=flexy+stand&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&client=firefox-a&gfe_rd=cr&gbv=1&sei=xqtoUvvPBcmOiAfC2IH4DQ&hl=en&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ei=xqtoUubYMIqpiAe0tIDgBQ&ved=0CCIQsAQ Cheap and easy to make, and as attractive as you care to make it. But lots of folk would rather buy something finished (no building), and I can understand this.
caddisgeek Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I use one of these for my power amp/pre, Ikea Rast $14.99, won't break the bank either Seen below in the bottom of my flexi (making it a rigid flexi), sorry about the blurry pic
hochopeper Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Sorry to hijack, can anyone tell me the internal width of those Lack side-tables please? I've only got the open sided Lack but I purchased them only a month ago (for my standing desk) and from what I remember they internal dimensions on both the open sided and closed sided rack are the same. 55cm square and the sides are each 5cm. Internal that leaves 45cm. I've got a Altronics rack mounted enclosure I use for my DIY headphone amp + DAC and it fits perfectly! Google for Lack Rack will return lots of people using Lack tables for mounting pro audio and network gear!
