alcarp Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I have a Cyrus 2 amplifier that hadn't been used for over a year. It seems to have a problem on the left channel - distortion and sound fading intermittently in and out when using the MM phono inputs. Would appreciate any advice as to what may be the problem.
Anthony John Colbert Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Swap the turntable leads and see if the problem changes channels. If not it could possibly be a dry solder joint in the phono input. If the problem swaps channels then look at your tonearm wiring
shaky Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Interesting. I have the same sort of issue with a Cyrus Pre. Odd things only from left channel and only when using the phono input. I posted here about it but no answer that have a solution. One thing I found in all my Internet searching was an issue someone had with left channel noise through a Cyrus pre. It boiled down to a faulty op amp chip. Maybe a replacement might sort your issue. I am about to do that with mine. The Pre has an NE5532P 8 pin op amp of that helps and saves you cracking open your 2.

If the problem swaps channels then look at your tonearm wiring I switched to a Behringer phono preamp and had no problem, I guess that rules out the wiring in the tonearm?
