blakey72 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I'm just after a cheap way to wirelessly stream music from my network directly into the back of my amp (RCA). I was thinking Apple TV or WD Live. Will eith of these devices do what I want? Which is better for ease of use/sound quality? Any other suggestions? Cheers Blake.
Juicester Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 do you use iTunes? And do you have an interest in Hi-Res music?
A J Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 You will still need a dac of some sort with either of those options - a Squeezebox Touch would be an easy solution 1

Hi Blakey, I wanted similar to you, heard my mates Sonos playing internet radio and thought how good is this. Did some research, wasn't spending what he did when I have amps, speakers etc., which he did I might add. Checked out media players, couldn't find free, similar to Sonos player, finally not being an Apple user, downloaded Itunes to my PC laptop, perfect. Did research about how to connect, seemed like Apple tv was the way to go. Went to Apple store on a Sunday to be told by salesman it wouldn't work, I needed an Ipad. Went home, rechecked and convinced it could be done, went back on Monday, thinking he probably only worked weekends. Saw a chap, told him what I wanted to do, didn't want video, he said AppleTV not the way to go, you need Airport Express, $120 later went home, set up, sounds fantastic. Cheers Joey 1
oldrose Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The airport express will do exactly what you've asked for as a one box solution if you want to use the computer or an iPhone/iPad for control of track selection etc. The DAC inside the AE is OK for the money. The ATV will resample everything to 48K so I only use mine for non critical listening or when SWMBO wants to play something easily.

What is your network? what is the source of your music?
Tez82 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I would recommend the Squeezebox Touch and later on you can add a DAC to complement your system. What is your idea of cheap though? $200?
ceeceevee Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I was in the same situation, although I already have the AppleTV and am looking for a DAC. Now everybody is recommending the squeezebox touch but isn't that thing not on sale anymore? In Australia, it's pretty much impossible to come by... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free
Kaynin Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I'd look at the Consonance D-Linear 7 via Greg Osborn. Full network server capabilities with RCA analog and digital outputs. RRP $1290, but you'd likely get it for $1,000 new, plus no need to add DACs etc., so comparatively speaking is good value for money. Top quality one box solution.
LogicprObe Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 What is your network? what is the source of your music? Yes............and how far is it from your computer?
blakey72 Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 What is your network? what is the source of your music? It's just my wireless pc network running off a Fritzbox 7390, Windows 7. I don't use itunes as I don't own anything Apple branded (just worked out that way). My phone and tablets are Samsung. I was looking at spending around $200. I'd love a squeezebox however funds don't allow atm and they are really hard to come by.
Damhooligan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) What pc are you running? You could connect the pc to amp with rca. Quick and easy. Just not wireless.. Edited October 22, 2013 by Damhooligan
Damhooligan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 You can also go for something like this.http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=20167i have not used it, but theoreticly it should do what you want
