DoggieHowser Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Bel Canto has a new line - BLACK It comprises of 2 components - a preamp (but not quite) the ASC1 and a monoblock which can accept digital inputs. http://www.belcantoblack.com/Bel-Canto-Black-MPS1-Powerstream.html The preamp/controller is also an Ethernet streamer and instead of analog outputs, it has balanced DIGITAL AES mono outputs (or ST fibre) Quite an interesting design. It's NCore 1200W module but it can also a full digital amp (literally!) with a digital input (from the ASC1) to power amp The monoblock shows an analog XLR input which I guess means it can be used as a traditional analog power amp. I am not sure if there is a matching AES mono input as well (there's a black input in the middle)
A J Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Wow - I think these look promising - they look like the goods - some good thought gone into these and the NC1200 are like a steel fist in a velvet glove. Anyway, I'm only dreaming until I get a job This is not a schill by the way, I have no financial connection nor have I seen/heard these or indeed have any ears that I trust been near them.
Lil Caesar Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Agree AJ - a real effort here to push the tech forward - lots of supposed proprietary developments: - a "streamer" with digital volume control with a very powerful FPGA for DAC duties a la dCs / Playback / Meitner / Chord et al - customised Ncore modules with filtered power supplies feeding DC direct to the output - Genuine ST Fibre interconnect from streamer to monoblocs - BUT at what cost to the enthusiast ? krebetman Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 - BUT at what cost to the enthusiast ? $50K USD apparently - nice idea and if well implemented, great promise. I'll have to wait for several levels of trickle-down effect though!
