Steff
(not sure this is the correct forum section, apologies if not) Hi all, the stereo system experiences a crackle sound every 20 minutes or so. The crackle is not v. loud, and not a buzz, more like a *clrck* Might be the fridge? Is it damaging the stereo gear? For now I've ordered a Thor 4way filtered board as first remediation attempt The system is currently connected through a Belkin surge protector board Is there more I can/should do? Thanks,

I heard a similar noise through my spkrs when I first fired up my system in this - then new - house. The fix was easy - I put one of my hash filters between the fridge and its wall socket ... that stopped the interference which the fridge was making from going back into the mains and affecting the hifi. See here: 54 minutes ago, Steff said: Is it damaging the stereo gear? No - it's just annoying! 54 minutes ago, Steff said: For now I've ordered a Thor 4way filtered board as first remediation attempt It might do the trick. But it's better to put the noise-killer on the item causing the noise. So I would suggest plugging the fridge into your new Thor 4-way filtered board, rather than using it for your system. 54 minutes ago, Steff said: The system is currently connected through a Belkin surge protector board Is there more I can/should do? Thanks, As you're in Melbourne, if the Thor board doesn't fix the noise ... you might like to borrow one of my hash filters to try? Andy

Andy Thank you Andy, that's very generous, I will get back to you if the Thor doesn't fix things. The google results for "hash filter" are what you would expect
andyr
Haha - haven't tried ... but I can imagine. This is what it is - 'xept it needs to be put in a box, with IEC and mains out sockets, to make it safe: That's one for a max 1a draw - ie. <240w device. Mine was only a bar fridge - so was <240w. If your fridge is bigger ... it will need the next size up - which is a 6a hash filter. (Still fits in the same-sized case!)
