Guest Point source Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I have heard Acoustat Model 6 over at 'audioboat' who usually hangs out on a Acoustat forum else where earlier this year. Only listened for 5 minutes and the BASS and imagery were very special indeed. They were right up there as 'best ever'. Not to mention round 7 feet hifi and metre across! Interestingly believe Chinese have bought the name so won't be surprised to see em produced using modern polymer technologies. Really beautiful presentation, imagery and depth....
Steve M Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 These ain't no ordinary Acoustats, they are directly driven ...all of the electronics in the electrostatic speaker including its transformer (with miles of wire and the saturation it causes), the rectifier block with diodes etc and crossover parts are all out of the way (disposed of). You are hearing the signal straight out of the CD/Record player into the Modjeski OTL amplifier, again no transformer, with the signal coming directly off the plates of the valve and delivered to the speaker panels as a 5000v voltage source. The reason for a fully direct-coupled amp driving electrostatic panels is that coupling capacitors, regardless of quality, are not perfect. The transformers used in all amplifiers and in electrostatic speakers are also far from perfect. So in the Modjeski amp, from input to output, the goal is for only the tubes to touch the audio signal ...about as pure as it can get in theory. Steve. 1

True, Brian did sell these to fund his business venture his plasma tweeters also went to another lucky person on SNA. For the record, there are about only 4 pairs of plasma tweeters that i'm aware of in Australia and two owners are SNA members. The dealer has yet to bring any further Lansche speakers in.Brian is putting together another great system in the interim and don't forget, he does still have his golden horns, cd transport, and pre amp. I'm sure once he has bedded in his business he will have the time to explore his hobby further. As for he buyer of the electrostatics and OTL, he is right under all your noses and you don't even realise it. Carefully re read this post and the Sydney Melb hifi odessy post and see if you can work out who it is. Edited December 8, 2013 by ENIGMA

brenden Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 You arent going to take this lying down are you Kajak. Pretty serious allegations there mate .
LogicprObe Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I have auditioned some pretty hot home systems including the full top MBL line, Clearaudio/ME/Quad, and of course darthlaker's temple of sound. But my best music playback experience was at Adelaide Studios, when I had the good fortune of a private audition. This is one of only 21 Dolby Premium certified spaces in the world, and the audio playback standards that have to be met are incredible -- certification can only be granted after in-person inspection by an extremely picky UK expert consultant. The studio was conceived from the ground up (literally, i.e. hole in the ground) with this aim in mind, including full computer modelling, massive isolation from exterior sounds, floating floors, full interior treatments, equalization, etc etc. Järvi's Beethoven in surround? -- I just don't think readers can understand without hearing it. What did I learn from this experience? That ultimate sound is not about pieces of audio gear and their 'sound' qualities and synergies, but rather it is about total system integration towards a fully specified sound field target. And that multi-channel is the path to take if we want the best. That's the film studios, isn't it?
joz Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 So does Stevenvalve now own Bryans speakers? Can Steven deny or confirm this?
Once was an audiophile Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 So does Stevenvalve now own Bryans speakers? Can Steven deny or confirm this? Stevenvalve still has his axiom80's and will be staying with them for the remainder of his natural life amen.

Guest myrantz Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Speechless So you're the new owner or not? I remember you like LPG's system before (horns), so congrats if you are the new owner of his stats... Lucky man if that's the case . You deserve 'em .
stevenvalve Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) Bryans system has in the last 3 weeks, gone to at least 4 different owners, the other 3 have been electrocuted. Edited December 9, 2013 by stevenvalve 3

Sir Rab of Everest Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 What a bunch of fraidy cats. I spent enough of my life working with much higher voltages than this; 5kV is for sissies! :-P 1
Once was an audiophile Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Are you and Mario OK? The lasting effects of electrocution can be pretty nasty Gamve i just made it, i was listening with my eyes closed(blind testing) then i decided to walk through the 3D sound stage while the music was playing its so transparent i walked into a panel and it fell over so now i have tremendous height not just depth. 2
Telecine Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) Mario is a likely candidate for the following reasons: - He has previously demonstrated no fear of electrocution based on past mods - He has previously expressed his his admiration for Bryan's systems - It involves valves - I am told that he has insects to kill so the bug zappers will come in handy Edited December 10, 2013 by Telecine
