FR DRew Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Yet to arrive, (only purchased yesterday) but I have two vintage albums by the German punk band Die Toten Hosen on their way on vinyl. "Learning English Lesson 1" is a tribute album of late 70's punk songs that the band grew up listening to, with guest guitarists or vocalists from the bands working with them. Wreckless Eric, Joey Ramone, TV Smith, Ronnie Bigs, Captain Sensible, Johnny Thunders and many more. In most cases, the covers are better than the originals and having only ever heard this disc on CD, I cannot wait to hear it on vinyl. The second (and more anticipated) is a replacement of "Bis Zum Bitteren Ende: Live" (To the bitter end), a live album that the band released in 1987. While I expect brickbats for saying so, this is the best live album I have ever heard from the point of feeling like you are there. The tone, dynamics, mix of crowd and ambience is simply perfect and the band is knocking it out of the park with their performance. Queen Live, or at Wembley, Clapton at the Budokan or Unplugged, Deep Purple Nobody's Perfect, The Who Live at Leeds, Cash, Dillon, Maiden, Motorhead, Sabbath, Dire Straits, BB King, Floyd, U2 etc have nothing on this recording. Not even close. This album alone changed my musical landscape for life. My vinyl copy is getting worn now after endless plays since 88 and the CD version lost a little of the magic. My Christmas may arrive a few months late, but I don't care and I cannot wait. 7
hopefullguy Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 (edited) dont worry mate friends are not what they are made out to be. famous quote from Mr Tommy Hanlon jr " my father told me to write my friends names in pencil because its easier to remove them that way." spoken at an awards night in front of his so called friends. anyway xmas is just another 24 hour day, go for a walk and laugh at the other idiots. be safe. edit: i did pick up a pair of old klipsch rf-5 fronts yesterday, only fair condition but being one of the very small number of people interested in this sort of gear makes for a buyers market.. ho ho ho Edited December 23, 2022 by hopefullguy 4
Volunteer El Tel Posted December 24, 2022 Volunteer Posted December 24, 2022 Not sure I will be getting any music related goodies this year. House reno was supposed to deliver the main bathroom, toilet and en suite by Christmas. Yeah, right... But still, the tiling was done by Wednesday so I got the plumber in to provide the luxury of one working karsi in the main part of the house. For the last 6 weeks, the standard M.O. has been a 3am half-drunk stumble downstairs and through through the gym to the only working toilet/shower in the house. I fitted new door furniture, planed the bottom of the door and installed it yesterday, but it still needs a couple of cleans, then electricals and some accessories (toilet roll holder, blind, etc), but it represents progress. I can't believe how happy this has made Mrs Tel Thanks, Santa! 10 2 3
