Hi,

Has anyone had purchasing experience with the Audiophile shop in Melbourne ?

I recently purchase a dac and it has an issue. The shop advertises that all purchases carry local warranty. https://audiophileshop.com.au/blogs/news/our-local-australian-warranty

I sent a text message to the owner Aaron about the issue and no reply.

Then I rang him many times and no answer. One occasion got a reply text saying he would call me back but I am yet to receive his call.

Is this a genuine shop ?

How will I claim the warranty (repair, replacement or refund) as I am from a different state ?

Only option is talking to the shop but the shop has only a mobile phone number which is unanswered.

Also it is worth to mention that first time the shop sent me a used dac inspite of paying for a new one. After some difficulties I managed to return it and got a replacement. Apparently the replacement is faulty.

Now I am thinking whether this shop sells dodgy gears.

Others be aware of this place.

The same dac is available to buy through Amazon and the only reason I bought it from the Audiophile shop is to support local business.

They actually appear to have a physical location, although Google hasn't been past there since it was FunSquare (and I cannot vouch for it either - not my neck of the woods). If there were any members living near Fountain Gate, they could do a drive by (the one where you look, not the one where you shoot!!!) to see if they physically exist.

Generally if they have a shop, then they will eventually get around to you. From looking at Google reviews, it seems that Aaron generally can be roused by a non-5 star review (another option)?

A great suggestion from @Cloth Ears, and perhaps a SN member who lives in the area may be able to follow up?

The website which you ( @upuln) showed in your initial post, shows  ABN 37 647 119 926 attached to the business.

That ABN is held in the name of "EWIZARD COMMERCE AUSTRALIA PTY LTD". It is a current ABN (active since 13 January 2021), with the main business location/office being registered as being in Glen Waverley, Victoria 3150.

(Not currently registered for GST however - perhaps a little concerning).

Another try on the mobile number may be worth a go. Good luck.

I bought some gear online last week, I tried calling to check order status as it hasn't changed and there's no answer. The website has the following note...

Anyone know if the business has integrity?

I think I could comfortably rate my purchase from them as the worst customer experience in living memory. After much consternation over if to buy from Hypex DIY (manufacturer in the Netherlands) or Audiophonics in France (great shop). I thought I would support a local Australian company. They have a very slick website and all looked OK. I ordered my "in Stock" Nilai PCB's and recieved acknowledgment. Then after 3 days or so I enquired as to shipping as they claim to ship within 72 hours. Received no response, I rang the mobile number, no response. Started to think the place was a scam and contacted Hypex who confirmed they are their "legal representative".  Eventually after ringing literally 20 times this guy Aaron answered. "oh yes no problem it will be shipped on Monday" 5 days after I ordered. Come Tuesday nothing. Same again sms, phone, email. Nothing, eventually I got an sms. We have some leads missing and will ship Monday, I received tracking #. Then nothing for 4 days. The whole process again, sorry my staff did not advise (this guy has no staff I am certain). Finally after 2.5 weeks the PCB's where shipped. They arrived and guess what, missing leads! I got back in touch same process getting harder and harder. Oh you must have misplaced them! You can buy them I will put a link on the website, unbelievable. At this stage I got back in touch with Hypex Netherlands and Aaron emailed me the next day and said he would order and ship the leads FOC within 1 to 1.5 weeks. Nothing was shipped he did not answer my email at the 12 days later point. I contacted sales again at Hypex, to their credit they then immediately sent them FOC by UPS. They have propriety plugs very hard to use the thing without though I did manage to hack a solution in the interim. So after 6 weeks from order I today have the leads from Hypex.

On a positive note, I recently purchased a SMSL DAC from Aaron and have no complaints about the product advice offered or the service I received. If one of my calls went unanswered, he would ring me back and all my texts and emails received a reply. He also talks at a fellow audio enthusiast level and obviously spends time getting to know how the products he stocks perform.

I did however have a problem with the courier Aramex who hadn't even managed to get my package to Perth after 9 business days. Aaron chased them up with a very direct enquiry (he sent me the screenshot) and a day later the DAC materialised at my front door.

For context, the amp I bought in Sydney was collected the same day as my DAC in Melbourne. Auspost had my amp delivered via regular post in 4½ days.
